Reagan and the Republican Dogma
As Americans mourn the loss of a President, let's look at a couple of items that became law during The Reagan Administrations. Tax cuts, For Who? For the first time in history, Reagan passed a law requiring unemployment compensation to be taxed by the federal government. This law is still in force. Talk about getting fucked twice. First, they screw up the economy so bad you lose your job, then they tax your unemployment. Next, he taxed Social Security for the first time. Real nice. Ya, they're the party of tax cuts alright. Who are they shitting? How about the Windfall Act, preventing those who have a pension from collecting Social Security without paying through the nose. These are just a few of the screwings the working class received under Reagan and the Republicans. Listen, I feel bad when someone passes on, and I mourn for his family. But let's not forget that we got a royal fucking during his years in office. What's amazing is that the asshole in the White House now is even worse.

1. I had forgotten about that 50% tax on Social Security income...
if it was above a certain amount. It was a Democratic Congress but Reagan did sign it.

2. He also taxed grad student stipends for the first time in history.
I got $400 per month and tuition (graduate teaching fellowship) while in grad school in 1982-83, and I had to pay taxes! I'm surprised Reagan couldn't figure out how to tax my tuition waiver!
