ABC WNT actually did a report on the "injured" soldiers last night
Edited on Thu Aug-14-03 01:04 PM by underpants
There is no link on their website (hmmm) so this is from memory.

1,289 injured in Iraq.

Theyhighlighted two families. One soldeir's father said that the Army had still not officially notified him that his son was injured. If his son hadn't called him and left a message they wouldn't have any idea what had happened to him. The son was still in a fog having just been through surgery (leg, arm, and face injured in RPG attack-didn't look too bad). The father said they had to listen to the message 6 times as it was very hard to make out what he was saying, only after the 6th listening did they realize their son was in Germany.

The wife of and injured soldier was highlighted as well. She had gone to see her husband and was shocked to see the hallways at the Rhamstein (sp?) Air base FILLED with soldiers on gurneys. She also was shocked at the severity of the injuries, "life altering" she said (loss of limbs).

She said the hospital staff were completely overwhelmed and tiring fast. They told he to come back and tell anyone she could that they need more people and more supplies.

1. Yeah, but after that
the newslady said (paraphrasing), "But on a good note, the oil wells are pumping again in Northern Iraq." I was stunned. Dang it!

3. Oh I forgot about that
That was an amazingly stupid thing to say or way to put it.

Did you see after the report of the bogus missile plot how she mentioned ~"Yes but it is a good thing that at least one of the missiles was recovered"

Brian Ross literally froze for a second. The look on his face was "Didn't you listen to the report we just presented?!!?!??!"

4. I missed that Underpants.
After she said that, when I recovered a little bit, it was back to Seinfeld.

5. It was at the beginning of the telecast

Within the first 5 minutes.

ON EDIT_ Because we just couldn't possibly devote more than 90 seconds to the lead story.....but anything having to do with healthcare, the elderly, or pingpong balls that set backfires gets a longer look. Not that I have anything against the elderly mind you.

2. I saw that myself and was pleasantly surprised.
And when is the AWOL dirtbag going to visit the wounded troops. It would be a nice gesture but then 'nice gestures' aren't in his repertoire.
