So Gubner Groper of CA has declared a day of mourning in |
|
California for Reagan. All state employees will get the day off. It is going to cost the taxpayers $60 million dollars. This was just announced on the local news. Now we know what he meant by opening the books. He just proved that he doesn't care how our money is spent when we are in a state of financial crisis in spite of all his promises to be a better fiscal manager than Governor Davis.

4. Days off, shmaysoff. It's costing us money we don't have. |
|
It's coming up fire season here and they won't do the funding needed to pass inspection on the flying tankards that drop water on the fires. Maybe the next fire will be in Bel Air, if there is a god!

5. Texas is also "mourning" with a three day weekend! |
|
Thanks Governor Perry! I can now "mourn" without the pesky interuption of work! Yahoo! (Oh, yeah, the additional excitement is the paid day off)
Gee, places like Chicago must not "love America!" Having to go to work on a National Day of Mourning seems to hint that the "terrorists have won!"
(Honestly, that's about the tone of most of what I'm hearing today over the proclamation)

10. Connection? That's a no brainer my dear! |
|
Reagan is the God of Republicans and first to court the Religious Right. Bush* is running for President as a Republican and our governor is a Republican....so....this pleases the vast number of people here who want to "honor" their hero Reagan and go to church. Many in my corner of the state think that this isn't at all "political" but simply "the right thing to do."
Oh, and they can, as I already have found, criticize those who are not going to one of the extravaganzas locally at our many many many churches. There was a mention on the local news offering rides to services where the funeral will be telecast and a local service will follow.
Seriously, its a weird weird scene

8. Yes, it's mourning in America |
|
BUT NOT FOR ME!
As Ronnie himself would have said: it'll all go right down the memory hole. The voluable bathos over this person will hasten its very end: had they been a little less overblown with their rhapsodizing, perhaps they could have milked a bit more mileage out of it, but then again, maybe not.
Sometime near the end of next week, the party's over for he fascists, and there'll be hell to pay. The upside of the distraction is that it keeps things under wraps, but the downside is that all the stored-up stories will burst with a pent up flood to catch up.
They may not even get that much respite: Sibol Edmonds and Daniel Ellsberg have a press conference on Monday...
