White House rejects calls for change of stem cell policy

WHITE HOUSE -- The White House is rejecting calls by former President Reagan's family to change its policy on stem cell research.

Press Secretary Scott McClellan says flatly, "The policy remains the same." He adds, "We are looking at other ways to combat disease."

(snip)

In 2001, Bush signed an executive order limiting federally funded research to 78 lines of embryonic stem cells then in existence. However, researchers say the number of lines actually available is now 19 -- and contamination may make those unusable.

McClellan says Bush believes his policy still provides enough lines to continue research.

1. Here's the shrub's solution for curing disease.
Press Secretary Scott McClellan says flatly, "The policy remains the same." He adds, "We are looking at other ways to combat disease."

Need a cure? Just head on over to the next Benny Hinn or Ernest Angley crusade/revival meeting and get the laying on of hands. That'll cure what ails you. If you can't attend in person send $20 bucks and get the anointed prayer cloth instead.

10. well I tell ya
if Diabetes, Alzheimers and other diseases that may be cured with stem cell therapy are eliminated and awful lot of Bush's pharmacy friends and all the related branches, would suffer terribly from lack of money.

I am convinced this is all about that. Diabetes is a billion billion dollar business.

This is not about ethics, or Christianity. Since when did the prick have any ethics? It is , at this stage of the game, about money. They will stall this as far as they can--while people suffer. They will also control any foreign efforts to develop groundbreaking treatment using stem cells.

3. This is political suicide for Bush.
There's only one person on the Republican ladder who trumps W, and that's Reagan. When Bush snubs the Reagans, he's also snubbing a huge number of his supporters. They won't vote for Kerry, but they might stay home in November.

11. Plus the timing of it is horrible.
You would think just after Nancy lost her husband that * would make it a point to at least agree to "think about it" rather than to flat out say "no". But this guy thinks it's his way or the highway.

He'll find out soon enough it is the American way or the highway back to Texas.

5. I hope the karma boomerang…
comes back to bite Chimpy in the ass. I’d like to see his stance change if he or poppy gets diagnosed with one of several diseases that stem cell research could possibly cure.

8. KKKarl's new nightmare:
Standing before the Democratic Convention, Nancy Reagan with her kids at her side says "I didn't leave the Republican Party, the Republican Party left ME. Go out there and win THIS one for the Gipper."

9. What Does Stem Cell Research Have To Do With Nancy R?
Isn't this interesting?

From the story you link to:

"Biologists think these could help create treatments for diseases ranging from diabetes to Alzheimer's, which afflicted Reagan for a decade"

And yet, the notion that these un-named biologists have is challenged.

See, for instance:
