Protege: HITCHENS Is Now Just "a smug, nasty scold
******QUOTE*****

FALLEN IDOL

A PROTEGE of Vanity Fair's Christopher ("Hellbound") Hitchens says his formerly fun friend has turned into a "smug, nasty scold." In a Minneapolis City Pages piece reminiscent of the screeds Hitchens has written attacking his own ex-pal, Clinton aide Sidney Blumenthal, Dennis Perrin writes that he misses the man who would routinely scream at bartenders for playing Cat Stevens and would likely have praised the Dixie Chicks for standing up to "our Dear Leader" rather than calling them "ing fat slags." Perrin once considered Hitchens "my mentor, more or less," but says now "I can barely read him anymore. His pieces in the Brit tabloid The Mirror and in Slate are a mishmash of imperial justifications and plain bombast; the old elegant style is dead," while his TV appearances "show a smug, nasty scold with little tolerance for those who disagree with him."

10. The only thing I respect about Hitchens
is that he said, "The Attorney General himself is a tuneless, clueless, evangelical confederate dunce".:D

Otherwise Hitchens is a used-up hack, awash in alcohol, bitterly flailing about trying to gain the acclaim he feels is his due, but cannot understand why it is not forthcoming.

11. Sounds a lot like DU.
A good percentage of the posters, that is.

I remember when Hitchens was good. Let me tell you, he was really good!

The guy pretty much nailed Poppy Bush's name to the JFK assassination at the Nation, printing the infamous November 23, 1963 J Edgar Hoover memo that detailed "Mr. George Bush of the CIA." Hitch nailed Poppy Bush's name to the October Surprise, using nothing but facts idiots in the "mainstream press" twisted into "conspiracy theory." Then he nailed Poppy Bush's name to the Iran-Contra pardons, spelling out how it meant future criminality — which should be evident, even to the sober among us. Any one of these would be a CAREER for most writers. For Hitchens, they were each a day's work.

Hitch bubbled along merrily, then started bashing Mother Theresa and the Clintons. Then something happened to him, completing his transformation during Selection 2000.

My guess is the BFEE got to him and threatened his family with the famished-rat head-cages again. They seem to have worked on Congress, too.

15. He Lacks Ethics and Principles...that's all
I think too many people put to much into Hitchens as being the Left to begin with...
I mean you can shake a stick at the number of former Trotskyites that have 'turned-coat'...Horowitz comes to mind
But if you think about it have you ever meet any 'Commies' that sounded very progressive to begin with...
Think of Hitchens as a journalist first
It would seem that after the Blumenthau lawsuit, Hitchens had very little options left...
I mean what kind of journalist, after having a private dinner, runs off to the Courts to file a supeona on his dinner guests to try to get the President impeached.
Not any kind of journalist that anyone would ever talk to again--he never understood 'progressive'' issues and never understood 'off the record'

But he did have an occasional point about hypocrisy

As far as Hitchens and Mom Teresa. This guy's rant is much better--he is a doctor from Calcutta

17. Dennis Perrin wrote
the biography of Michael O'Donoghue. Hitchens wrote the blurb on the back cover. They were very close. Hitchens has surely fallen to sickening depths.
