An interesting turnabout. |
|
For as far back as I can remember, I've heard all these "law and order" Republicans praising Middle Eastern justice systems because "they really know how to get tough on criminals". Someone steals something, they cut off their hand. "That'll teach 'em!". "They don't coddle criminals over there, no sir!". Etc, etc, etc. You know the drill, we've all heard it.
But now, somebody over there has decided to start practicing this form of "justice" against American occupiers. And suddenly I'm just not hearing much praise for Islamic-style "justice" anymore.
Funny, that.

2. You know, you made a great point. I remember this also. |

"An eye for an eye" If you lie, cut off the tongue. Just think what a quiet group this administration would be. We are so hypcritical and false. It's all about "human rights" and treating people in a "civilized" way. When Carter tried to foster human rights across the world, Reagan and the Reaganites ridiculed him and said that America should stay out of other country's business (that's when we were propping up the ME tyrants for their oil and cheap labor) and that we could force human rights on another nation.

4. In WW2 they were called "Krauts and Nips" |
|
then for Vietnam "Charlie and sloap heads". So what terms will the fascists use to dehumanized Iraqis and Afghanis?

US soldiers apparently are referring to Iraqis as "Hajis."
This is especially despicable because "Haji" is a term of high status in Islam that they are denigrating. A person becomes known as "Haji so-and-so" after they complete the Hajj, one of the Five Pillars.

5. Except in the eyes of the Repugs... |
|
..the Americans over there aren't guilty of anything. So, I'm afraid the irony is lost on them.
