Putin's mystery statement solved
By Arnaud de Borchgrave
UPI Editor-at-large
Published 6/20/2004 4:21 PM

WASHINGTON, June 20 (UPI) -- Last week President George W. Bush received an unexpected boost from Russian President Vladimir Putin. The Russian president said Friday that Russian intelligence services had obtained information that Iraq, then still under Saddam Hussein, was planning terrorist attacks against the United States. Putin says he warned U.S. intelligence.

Back in Washington, U.S. officials were bemused when they heard Putin's claims that he had warned the Americans. "Everyone is scratching their heads," said the official, on condition of anonymity.

Shedding light on this bizarre affair is a July 10, 2002 report by UPI's Editor-at-Large Arnaud de Borchgrave. What follows is the original report.

If President Bush doesn't have a war plan on his desk to unhorse Saddam Hussein -- maybe he doesn't allow the New York Times to touch his desk -- the Iraqi dictator most assuredly has one on his desk.

1. Seems if he'd had wmd's
he'd have used them when attacked, right?

I can't believe no one seems to mention this.

4. Richard McGarrah Helms came to world attention as a young UPI reporter
with a world exclusive interview with Adolph Hitler in 1936.

This UPI stuff is slanted from the RW spooks viewpoints historically.

Could be a lot of disinfo.
