"A week ago he (Ryan) was just a loser, now he is unelectable"
--unnamed GOP source to NBC5 Chicago. Per Phil Rogers (NBC5 Reporter) GOP party insiders are already calling Obama Senator. LOL

3. Yes but we (Obama supporters) cannot get lazy. . .
. . .we have to keep working as if Ryan (or whomever the Repukes run) is a serious challenger. As the Beastie Boys say "No Sleep til Brooklyn!"

5. Yeah
Obama really is a dream candidate. But we have to make sure this thing is a for sure win, despite the like double digit leads Obama has in the polls. Downstate is the major thing the campaign has to work on. It's going to be awesome seeing the results in november from Illinois for all Dems.

4. Yeah, but now maybe Jeri Lynn Ryan his wife can run as a Democrat...
...And she would be very electable...and she's hot to boot....And maybe the Fundies would like her - a wife who said no to sex clubs...

Liked her on Star Trek II and Boston Public....

9. Who knows. . .
. . .I think that the problem is regardless of who the Repubs run Obama walks away with it. So their dilema is do they save face by replacing Ryan and still losing or should they keep Ryan and lose.

32. would guess the latter unless they think that they have a "ringer"
in the wings who would have a chance with a shorter running time frame (ala Lautenberg and Mondale - though the latter didn't work out.)

10. Probably Jim Edgar
He's one of the last Illinois Republicans who isn't completely scandal ridden to the point of unelectability. Either him or Oberweis. Not that he could ever win, but pitting oberweis against Obama would be quite the sight to see. A little humor for us all.

13. exactly
maybe he will resurrect the commercials. those offended like, millions of people back in the primaries. I don't fathom how someone could run those anywhere within the vicinity of Chicago and not expect to fail horribly. But at least they showed the dude for what he was.

17. The fact that the Republicans don't like him. . .
. . .I think it speaks to the problems of the party. I am a liberal so I want someone who reflects my ideology but Fitzgerald deserves to carry the banner for the party, it shows the problem with the Republican party.

they may not like him... but he helps (potentially) keep that majority.

BTW, I actually told him he was a spineless, LYING, putz to his face....it was a great day!

19. the Chicago-Illinois political-criminal combine
never forgave him for getting another Fitzgerald - ie, our US attorney in place. his problem was he was rich, and therefore not bribable, despite their best efforts.

he's had criminals from both sides of the aisles seeing proctologists just to fit in the right sized plugs.

You really have to understand the onion like layers of corruption, fraud, bribery and other stuff in this area to understand. And once you do, you need an MD to work on the neck pain from all the headshaking you do.

26. You've got a good pount.
They've never forgiven him for bringing in an "outsider" from New York. Nevermind that other Fitzgerald was highly qualified and I think will get to the bottom of this Plame treason situation.

24. I don't know about Edgar. He rebuffed Karl Rove's urgings...
to enter the race after Peter Fitzgerald announced he wasn't running. Edgar is a Republican, but I do think he's a man of integrity. I think no matter what happens, Edgar is staying out of it.

21. I found it really interesting ...

I heard Jack Ryan on NPR. He said

"I didn't do anything illegal.
It wasn't against the ten commandments".

But what was really shocking is ...

HE DIDN'T DENY IT!!!!!

That means he DID take himself and Jeri to swing clubs to view other couples screwing. AND ... people at those parties would be able to finger Jack Ryan as BEING THERE.

"Yeah, he was jerking off while I backdoored my buddies wife."

Way to go for a GOP candidate!!!!!!

Stick a fork in Jack Ryan, he's DONE in GOP politics.

23. Did you read Eric Zorn's column in the Tribune today about Ryan?
Zorn (who I like a lot) was scathing about how Ryan is using his son in all of this.

Obama has handled it well so far, don't you think? The best thing he can do is just stay the hell away from it. Ryan will self immolate without anyone else's help.
