Speechless in the East Village: My F911 Experience
Edited on Thu Jun-24-04 11:07 PM by nostamj
I got tickets online last week (fandango.com) for one of the advance screenings in NYC's East Village.

At the time we picked up our tickets, all the showings through 12:15 were completely sold out. The same was true for tomorrow.

I attended with two very politically aware and active friends (including my writing partner for the ?W Revue). We entered at 7:30 and the theatre was already more than 2/3rds full.

As will be the case with many DUers, there was not much *new* information in the film. But, that didn't really lessen the impact of seeing the many clips.

For example, for those who have only seen the Booker School video online, the IMPACT of seeing it crystal-clear on a huge screen was devastating. Equally stunning was the footage of Bush* preparing to make this announcement of the Iraq invasion.

"Creepy" is an gross understatement. It's utterly unnerving.

And, while it's a short clip, the image of Bush* standing before the "haves and have-mores" and extolling them as his 'base' SHOULD turn every 'republican' who doesn't have a 7-figure income against these entitled monsters in droves.

WARNING: There are scenes in this movie that I could NOT look at, even though I've seen some of the most gruesome images of this hideous 'war.' The stills photos cannot convey the horror of the live video, with soldiers and children screaming...

While there are many great laughs, the overall effect is a gut-punch.

I noticed that while the movie got a huge ovation, there was virtually NO conversation in the crowd around me as we left the theatre.

In fact, though my friends and I had been engaged in over 2 hours of spirited political chat before the movie, we were utterly silent as we left the theatre and walked the several blocks to our subways stations.

So much to process.

This film will not change the minds of the vast majority of DUers. But, if you can bring those who could still be open to learn something about what it being done to their country, their lives, their children... well... do it!

on edit: dumb typo and, btw, FUCK OFF CHENEY! YOU SICK BAG OF FUCKING SHIT. FUCK. OFF.

3. I had the same reaction..
very powerful film making one range in feelings from depression to frustration to utter sadness and helplessness. A great film that everyone should see - Thank God for Michael Moore, a real hero.

6. "helplessness" was not on my list of feelings
about this film.

if anything, MM gave us reasons to hope that TRUTH will GET OUT.

ugly, sad, revolting as that truth may be.

I didn't feel 'helpless' at all.
