Moviefone calls F/911 politcally-motivated propaganda |
|
I wish I hadn't bought my ticket from these guys now. MoveOn actually pointed ticket-buyers to the fools.
From an email I just got:
"Moviefone presents Moviemail for the week of 6/ 25/ 04 =============================================================
OUR FEATURE STORY TURNING UP THE HEAT Moviegoers tend to shy away from watching documentaries in theaters, but there's a new one coming out this weekend, maybe you've heard about it. In 'Fahrenheit 9/11,' Oscar winner Michael Moore critiques the presidency of George W. Bush. But does such politically-motivated propaganda stand a chance at affecting the outcome of the next election? Discover four documentaries that changed history. "

That's exactly what it is. Calling it politically motivated is 100% correct. Calling it propaganda is also correct. Propaganda has a stigma attached to it, which makes the reader/listener automatically assume propaganda = lies. That's not the case. There is a such thing as truthful propaganda.
Sorry, they probably ARE being assholes, but I thought I'd play Devil's advocate.

I get the concept, but Moore is merely stating facts and pointing out stuff that the rest of the world (with real news orgs) already knew, but Americans were blinded to thanks to our corporate media.

5. Yeah that's what I said |

Sometimes propaganda can be truthful. You're correct, MM is indeed stating facts, and he has the sources and documentation to back them up. However, propaganda is most often associated with lies, which is why I ended by saying moviephone probably were being assholes.

2. I don't really see the harm in calling it politically motivated |

Michael Moore has explicitly stated that he would love to have F9/11 serve in ousting Bush come November. I think one can state that such a goal is political in nature.
Moore did a great job exposing Bush for what he is, an incompetent fool.
