Ted Koppel should make up his mind |
|
did anyone see Ted's line of questioning of Kerry regarding all the money he's raising?
Kerry to his credit said sure we're raising TONS of money, it's great.
But "Nightline" turned the camera on Koppel, who had a disgusted look on his face, and made comments that expressed disgust disgust at all the money in politics.
But then I remembered Koppel instructing Kucinich, Braun and Sharpton to exit the primaries because they had no money.
Which left me confused. Shouldn't Koppel have embraced those pure, moneyless candidates?

2. So, when does Koppel have Stupidhead on? |
|
And will Koppel ask him about all the money he's raised, quite a lot of it while traveling around the country on the taxpayer's dime:
Fly Air Force One into town, accept media adulation
Attend $1,000 a plate fundraiser
Meet with capitalist cronies
Shake the money tree
Put the arm on a few people
Pose with a black kid at a center that's about to have its funding cut
Ride Air Force One back out of town with a buttload of cash

3. Koppel was a real sticking baby diaper last night..... |
|
the whole interview was a 'gotcha' and not even used one positive word toward Kerry. Kerry was too nice. He should have been just as nasty, making Tel Koppel the story. Something Mr. Koppel hates. I must sent him an e-mail tell him what a real shit baby diaper he is. You know what I hate, Koppel will probably be one of those assholes doing the questioning during the debates.
I hope everyone saw the Peter Jennings, Guantanamo documentary. King george bush has absolute power to place anybody in jail as he sees fit and charge anybody as a terrorist. george has the power to even send Senator Kerry to Guantanamo, as a combatant against the president. Well, georgie's latest tv ad shows Kerry's face outlined by his family's friend, mr. hitler.

5. I liked when Kerry corrected Koppel |
|
Koppel said Kerry's fundraiser was in Hollywood. Instead of letting this stupid "mistake" slide, Kerry pointed out that it was in downtown LA.

4. Ted Koppel is ok, but sometimes he tries to ask "tough" questions |
|
without understanding or seeing his own contradictions. overall i liked the nightline. the parts where koppel is just hanging around with kerry as he is doing the usual campaign things such as flying around or meeting with people were good. i liked where they talked about the robert redford scene from that movie.
the sit down interview in the end wasn't as good as the rest of it.

6. I think you got it wrong |
|
Ted Koppel seems to come around to the Kerry camp. He presents Kerry in a Hard News way while giving him a forum. I think after he was so beat up by the RWs over his "Memorial to the fallen" telecast he decided "The f**k with it!" If you saw his last Nightline on Kerry, it was an investigation into his combat time on the Swift Boat. But Koppel made a point to have Kerry's comrades tell what really happened and how Kerry IS a hero. Last night he asked those questions but gave Kerry ample time to answer. Also he used the Timkin Plant in Ohio to show what a sh*t Bush is. Also, the more access Kerry gives him the more Bush will have to stop hiding from the press. DUes, yes the press has been overly pro bush, but don't be oversensitive. Koppel is on our side.

7. Ted Koppel is NOT "on our side" |
|
I happen to think that he's a Bush apologist, but that's not even my point.
My point is the hypocrisy of criticizing Kerry for raising too much money, where he criticized Kucinich for not raising enough.

8. no, Ted Koppel is one of the best out there |
|
he doesn't have to be on our side as we are. he just needs to do his job which he is doing pretty well right now. i don't like all of the things he asks such as the example you gave and that time in the debates where he asked the candidates to raise their hands if they think dean could win.
but overall he is a pretty good reporter . and i liked the nightline piece on kerry. it showed kerry as he is in a positive way. kerry's ability to respond to questions, even stupid ones, without looking like an ass as bush always does helps kerry. and koppel actually allows kerry to respond back.

10. you're probably right, but that's not saying much |
|
I don't think we should settle for crumbs.
Yes, I'd probably agree with you that compared to the other whores, Nightline looks like a pretty good program.
And I was thinking that Peter Jennings's program on Guantanamo was pretty good too, until I switched on the BBC News. There was more substance in their 6-minute segment on Guantanamo than in Jennings's whole hour.
We need to demand more of these superstar journalists. Ok, Kerry came off looking ok, but wouldn't he look even better if Koppel had asked him some substantive questions? If the whores just focus on style and process, that puts Kerry at a disadvantage. It will be 2000 all over again.

14. Ted Koppel is an entertainer, not a reporter |
|
Koppel lost my respect 15 years ago, shortly after a study came out that said gays were homosexual by nature, not by choice. To debate the issue, he had on one side a competent person explaining the results of the study, and on the other he had... Jerry Falwell.
The resulting farce of a debate was an exercise in entertainment, not a journalist trying to explore a serious scientific issue.

9. I understand your point. |
|
"My point is the hypocrisy of criticizing Kerry for raising too much money, where he criticized Kucinich for not raising enough."
But what I am saying is it gave Kerry a chance to explain that it came from nearly 1 million people at and average of $108. In contrast to Bush's high roller fund raising. Koppel should ask hard questions, and then allowing Kerry to give full answers only helps him. I really don't want the news to be on our side. I want it to be independent and fair. Something that hasn't happened since the chimp took over.
I also don't think he was criticizing Kucinich as much as pointing out that he wasn't a viable candidate without resources. Which is true, but DK had an agenda he wanted to promote and used the primaries to do it. I glad he did and that his voice was heard, but the $ question was legitimate. Last night Koppel let Kerry explain why his big fund raising is different than W's. My point is that we are so tired of the press as Repuke lackeys that we don't see true even handed journalism when it is there.

12. yes, Koppel actually gives Kerry a chance to respond to what whores attack |
|
him and other democrats for. and Kerry came off looking really good there. his response to the question about how the bush people are trying to make kerry appear, showed kerry as someone very caring and concerned. very presidential. that's something you don't see from bush.

So many people here think that any question that mentions something negative about a Dem, even a question is giving the Dem a chance to refute the charge, is evidence of bias in the media.
