1. It was on 2300+ screens |
|
You can not compare the two movies. F 9/11 is on only 850 screens and is doing great for a documentary.

11. But its "weekend" was really 5 days, |
|
since it opened on a Wednesday and the extra two days were factored in.

4. Don't fall into this Freeper trap |
|
Farenheit 911 is not the opposite of the Passion of the Christ. I saw Passion and will see Farenheit 911.
However, a better measure would be the per theater gross.

7. Please remember there was a religious conspiracy at work |
|
Churches buying out whole theaters most certainly boosted sales over what would have happened if it was simply like minded individuals going to a showing.

Passion is a historical/religious period piece. F911 is a politically-themed documentary. Yes, folks on both ends are willing to take up sides, but these are 2 entirely different films. I still want to see the Passion, though, to decide for myself, but I've heard the book is better :)

Passion Of Christ Total gross since open: $370,143,886
Opening night gross: $26,556,573
F911 Estimate opening night: $8,358,000
This really isn't bad, considering that you don't have a large percentage of youth groups, church groups, churchs, etc. encouraging mass viewings of the film as a group.
As an example, Supersize Me has been around since May 7th, and it's total gross to date is $9,128,974. So, not a bad opening night for a documentaary. Most docs range a gross of 1 million to 8 million during their entire run. Columbine's lifetime gross is $21,576,018. I think he'll beat that.
All info From Box Office Mojo website. Great site!

19. Farenheit beats Passion |
|
$9216.58 per screen for Farenheit $8834.52 per theater for Passion
We beat them.
Farenheit will play longer because the viewers learn something. Passion is sonethint they already know.

It will break all opening weekend box office records for an under 1000 theater opening.
It will be the biggest grossing documentary in history AFTER ONE WEEKEND!

18. I exercise "cautious optimism".... |

A nasty habit I picked up living in a Republican infested county as a youth. When it surpasses those stats, I break out the party hat.
I'm going today, so I'll be doing my part to up the numbers. Can't wait, actually.

21. Interesting that freepers consider the Passion 'theirs'. lol! |
|
Edited on Sat Jun-26-04 05:20 PM by Dover
Typical freeper mindset: Let's see we've got God on our side and more people in the pews...er...theatre.
I think the comparison is interesting only in that it was the most recent record-breaking blockbuster, so it would be interesting to compare them just on that basis.....not regarding content.
