Recognizing that the whole mess with Cheney telling Sen. Leahy to f*k off, and later defending himself by calling Leahy a phony only proves how childish this Administration is, a question still remains: Does Leahy hurt himself by making abig deal out of this? I mean, if he makesa bigger deal out of this, won't the right-wingers in the press just call DEms crybabies? Just a thought.

1. Is he making a big deal about it? I thought he just said .. |
|
"I thought he was just having a bad day" I just keep hearing the media talking about it and us but not Leahy

2. "later defending himself by calling Leahy a phony"? |
|
I think you have gotten this mistaken. Haven't heard that he "defended" himself at all - he sounded proud of his remarks in fact.

4. I meant he justified (or rather he tried to) what he did. |
|
He said that he was glad that he did it, and he said he wasn't sorry because Leahy was the "kind of guy who pretends to be chummy, and then questions your integrity." Basically, Cheney justified his cations, and you're right, he wasn't sorry at all.

5. Cheney is the perfect example of what the new Repubs |

have done.
I have heard many people say that members of Congress used to argue on the floor and then go out and have a beer together.
I have read that the Dem. Speaker of the House Tip O'Neil and Pres. Ronald Reagan used to get together on a social level.
Bush and Cheney don't believe in democracy; they think they are absolute monarchs.

6. I think Leahy comes off smelling like a rose. |
|
First, Cheney approached him and picked a fight about Halliburton. When Leahy reminded Cheney that he was doing some bad-mouthing of his own, Cheney proved the point by cursing.
It was Senate aides who reported the story - not Leahy. When asked, Leahy had the genius to be gracious about it - while making sure to mention that it happened on the Senate floor.
Then Cheney obligingly called more negative attention to himself by making more asinine comments. And this in a week when the latest WH ad campaign is focusing on the "positives" of the current administration!
Yeah right! LOL! Cheney stepped in dog poo and just kept hopping around in it, while Leahy walked off looking dignified.

After looking at the whole story again, I know see that Leahy did exactly what he should have done (brush it off and be an adult about it). It amazes me how this Administration gets so pissed off over criticism of policy, then they respond with personal attacks. So much for changing the tone.
BTW, can you imagine the outrage from conservatives if the reverse had happened?
