Anyone else find it weird |
|
that conservatives criticising the film are consistently citing the "Bush officials putting on makeup" scene? They keep saying stuff like "this doesn't prove anything." Like it was supposed to. I didn't read into that at all, it was more of an artistic thing, like the players preparing for the Drama that is about to unfold.
I think it's telling that they're reduced to attacking non-points.

2. Bingo. Real men don't wear make-up. |

I keep hear that scene cited over and over. It's a non-issue except to neandrethals who think Moore was trying to make * appear "unmanly". Meanwhile everyone else is focused on his smirking and yucking it up for the camera just before announcing that he is bombing the shit out of Baghdad.

3. They can't refute it on any other level..... |

So they are frantically grasping at the frays they think they can latch onto to vilify the movie.
DUH, of course it doesn't prove anything. I did like it's use in the movie for artistic reasons, though. Atristically, the footage,to me, said many things: "things are not what they seem"; they were puting on their war paint; their facades are about to crumble.

Perhaps these conservative critics feel threatened by the thought of wearing makeup - that somehow people will assume they're a bunch of 'fancy lads.' I too never gave a thought to such an idiotic notion while watching that scene. And like you, I thought about actors preparing for a play. If that's all the critics have got, it's a weak load.

5. Someone needs to deliver a newsflash to them |

Every politician gets make-up put on him/her before going on national TV. When I saw it I was more drawn to the dumb-ass faces that bush was making rather than the make-up. I actually didn't even give the "manly issue" any thought until I read this thread. It was really a non-issue for me, because I know that it's something that gets done to everyone Republican or Democrat.
