A F9/11 report from Indianapolis |
|
I went to a showing at 6:50 and there was a long line of people trying to get tickets who were ticked off when they announced that the showing was sold out. I figured this might happen, and scooted over to another theater for a 7:45 showing. They had their largest theater for the film and although it wasn't sold out, it was very close.
In both cases, the film was playing to people who, if looks can tell, are already in the choir. I saw mostly college age kids, and people who look like Democrats. (looser, longer hair, hip, and very lightweight on primping, hair spray, and gold jewelry).
I am 50 years old, and can only recall one other documentary film that affected an audience like this (Hearts and Minds - an anti-Viet Nam film). I was impressed by how many groups of people were gathered outside of the theater talking after the film, I have never seen anything like it before.
There was applause and the end of the film, but I remember that the applause was thunderous after the film "Breaking Away" which was coming of age/love story centered around an event that actually takes place at Indiana University. Here the applause was more polite. I would have expected a more energetic reaction based on the type of people at F9/11.
I hope the Democrats learn from F9/11 the same way they learned from Howard Dean that they can have the courage to challenge this corrupt administration and not suffer political death, and that there are a number of people in America that are exceedingly enraged by what this government is doing to us and in our name.
They need to tap into this phenomenon and engage those that understand F9/11 to vote and remove the despots from power. They (I am talking to you Tom Daschle and John Kerry) need to show some leadership and articulate a vision that taps into the emotional content that F9/11 is so clearly tapping and draw those that are disaffected, and whose lives may well be destroyed if Bushism is allowed to continue.
These people are not just swing voters. They are the basis of a new movement, people who can carry the memory of just how bad it can be under Republicanism, and keep democracy alive.

3. Hoosiers aren't real demonstrative |
|
I'd read more into the size of the crowd than any particular reaction.

4. I agree. JK and his campaign need to GO to some of the F911 showings, |
|
not only to see the movie but to sense the energy of these crowds.
