1. If your baby's diaper becomes red, seek a proctologist immediately

4. Maybe not.
Sometimes I think that the only form of rebellion against their parents that they can find is to become members of the John Birch society

5. For those who don't know or couldn't figure it out...
Red diaper babies were babies raised by communist parents.

Grown-up red diaper babies aren't necessarily communists or even leftists, but they often commiserate with one another about the "unique" ways in which they were raised.

6. My father voted for Henry Wallace
but he wasn't a Communist.
Does that count?

I'm surprised the poll indicates people don't know what a red diaper baby is.

19. But he was running against Truman...
My least favorite democrat of all time.

I could not have voted for Truman after Hiroshima/Nagasaki.

Unacceptable.

(Here come the flames...)

27. Truman caused plenty of flames on his own
so you won't get any from me.

I can maybe just maybe (and it is a very conditional maybe) accept Hiroshima, but Nagasaki is completely inexcusable once they knew for certain the results of using a nuclear weapon.

10. The CP had 100,000+ members in the 30s.
Many of us come from reds, a generation or two back. The CP 1936 election slogan was "Communism is Twentieth Century Americanism!" Mass rallies prominently featured US flags, slogans against fascism and for peace with the Soviet Union. Many of the finest Americans were communists: WEB Dubois, Langston Hughes, Harry Bridges and so on.

17. By the way, I apologize...
...to those who will be offended by this thread and the undoubtedly inevitable fact that it will be picked up by freepers who will say - "See! They're COMMIES!", or "See! they don't HATE COMMIES ENOUGH!"

Sorry about that.

I am against communism as it was practiced in the soviet union and elsewhere, but using that to try and invalidate everything Marx ever wrote is just plain foolish. His works are required reading in schools of economics, and a certain amount of state intervention is necessary for a capitalist society to function, IMO

28. I agree.
To believe that Capitalism is an end in itself is really to believe in the law of the jungle and I thought we became civilized to change that. I think every baby born has a right to safety, sustenance and nurture, health care and an education. In order for society to care for all it's babies until they can care for themselves once they are adults, it takes socialism to help accomplish this. So it means we also help their parents to achieve these ends. We also need to help the children take care of their parents once the parents are no longer able to help themselves through either illness or old age. Communism is actually the tribal system of working and sharing together.

Soviet communism and other totalitarian varieties existing today are not real communism, but another version of class based imperialism.

...is how I was brought up. Jersey fucking City. The great days of machine politics, something I actually recall with some fondness. Back when the Democratic Party was something more than a loose coalition of self-involved affinity groups.
