An example of how Freepers think (running for political office, even)
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/1162850/posts?page=18

Check out the comment(s) by "CongressmanBillyBob" and tell me if this doesn't describe how Freepers justify their media.

The scary part for me is that he's actually running for office and doesn't have a problem taking this position...

2. Somebody posted an "I did it...because I could" article on Clinton.
Edited on Wed Jun-30-04 08:56 AM by MercutioATC
Nowhere in the article did it show the full quote, which is:

"I did something for the worst possible reason -- just because I could," he said. "I think that's just about the most morally indefensible reason anybody could have for doing anything."

A Freeper that's apparently running for Congress stated that the original quote was fair because (as somebody who's written briefs for the Supreme Court) he's learned that an ellipsis (the three dots) indicate that words were removed and the reader can look up the original quote for themselves.

Encouragingly, there are posts that agree that the "ellipsised" quote is, in fact, misleading.

3. Its amazing the advances that have been made in logic theory by freepers
Some of it doesn't even seem logical to me, but I guess I'm just not smart enough to vote Republican. Perhaps someone else could help me out with this one? One of them stated that Clinton must have thought he was above the law because he used the justification "because I could." Does this mean that, if I took ten packets of ketchup from the condiment station "because I could" I'm breaking the law? What if I make a legal U-turn "because I could?"

5. It's NOT a space...it's been filled by Gobbels v2.0--New and Improved
Edited on Wed Jun-30-04 10:59 AM by tom_paine
As it was before, with v1.0, the idea is to create an indigestibel mass of people unable to be reached by any truth except the "truth" which comes from the Party.

Some things NEVER change, I'm sorry to say.

The worst part of it is, the Left has had no choice but to begin to emulate this because of the clear evidence that to try and rise above it is to make the mistake of the German Social Democrats of 1933.

Cna ANYTHING stop the spiral now?

7. Funny - not only removing words but adding words too
if the original quote is:

"I did something for the worst possible reason -- just because I could,"

and he distorts it to "I did it...because I could" where did the it come from? Hmmmmm. Playing fast and loose.

9. So, now, it would be legitimate scholarship to, for example, take a quote
Edited on Wed Jun-30-04 12:01 PM by Jackpine Radical
like the First Amendment and render it thus:

Congress shall make {a} law {that shall} ... establish... {Satanism as the official National} religion, ... prohibiting the ... exercise {of any other faith}; ...{and may} ...abridge the freedom of speech, ...and of the press; ...{and deny} the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

10. IMO, Billybob supports death threats too
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1162691/posts

A poster called "God luvs America" did a solo freep of a moveon houseparty carrying a sign that read "Death to Moveon"

<quote>I shoved the sign in their direction so they could read "Death to Moveon" and they were mortified...so much so they drove past the house and kept going. Eventually they turned around and made a beeline up the driveway when I was on the other side of the house. It was a late arriving crowd but this continued to happen; people would come down the street, see me holding a sign which I'm sure they expected it to read, "The party's here" then they got the shock of their lives.

Finally they sent someone out to "help with parking", ha-ha.

The guy looked at me and said, "What's wrong with Moveon?" I did not respond as I didn't want to get into it with him. "You don't talk?" he asked...I responded, "not to you!" Cars would drive past me mortified at what they saw and the "parking helper" would funnel them up a side street and get them to the "party house" through some back route so they could avoid dealing with me again. Some old guy parked his car and asked me on his way to the party house, "how is this death going to occur? Incineration? Execution? Lynching?" I responded, "As far as I'm concerned any and all methods necessary!"

</quote>

later in the thread good ol' Billybob posts

<quote>To: God luvs America
Excellent piece of work, every step of the way. Everything said, everything on the signs, and your conduct in general. The FR community is honored by your efforts, and your report.
