The rest of us have to face the indignity of actually thinking for ourselves.

If Satan told you God didn't exist, would you believe him?

10. It's an analogy, you twit
So you believe the Greens goal is to siphon off Democratic votes because FOX FUCKING NEWS and Free Republic tell you?

If you were a gay rights activist, and you read an article on NewsMax saying that the Democrats secretely want to kill all gays, would you believe it? Apparently you would if you're stupid enough to go into a tizzy about this "article".

23. What does that have to do with you trusting Fox News?
More misdirection so you can keep pushing your irrational hatred of Greens in general. If you focused half of that energy on the Republicans who are feeding you this bullshit "news", we might actually make a dent in the hardheaded consensus. But you'd rather waste time whining and bitching about how evil the Greens are.

When you go get a clue, pick up a life while you're at it.

20. Either liberal Green voters matter, or they don't
If Green votes were what 'stole' the last election (funny...I remember the Supreme Court having something to do with it...), then you are saying that there are enough liberal Green voters to make a difference.

Then you turn around and say that there aren't enough to matter, and the nominee has to be Clark to get the 'swing' voters? Did you know that Michael Moore recently said he would vote for Clark? Does that mean Clark is a Green trojan horse?

Which is true? Given that you've shown nothing but contempt for issues that liberal Greens care about, and do nothing but INSULT them for caring about these issues, you had BETTER HOPE that either there aren't enough to matter, or that they are mature enough to look past the disruptive, personal attacks that are delivered on them by some 'Democrats' since the 2000 election.

21. With all the votes that went for NADER
It was enough taken away from Al Gore to help the idiot steal the presidency. The supreme court sealed the theft. In other words....there probably wouldn't have BEEN a recount if Nader wasn't in the race. You do the math....then tell me I'm wrong. (you probably will anyway).

Nobody OWES the Democratic Party ANY vote!

Novel concept here: Candidates EARN votes based on ISSUES.

...that they can affect an election?

That should normally mean that their issues would be given a place in the party platform, right? But then why are you so against Kucinich?

St Bills self-idulgent, fling with a young intern cost al gore a slam-dunk, walk-off victory. the whole world was watching him, but he thought he could get away with such shenanigans. talk about greens being egotistical, arrogant and selfish? clinton was all-universe.

face the real truth. clintons ego cost al gore a ton of swing voters.

BTW, even with that baggage Gore still won by 540,000 votes which is three times JFK's margin. And if someone other than Chimpy's brother were governor of Florida Gore would be president now.

17. Well, I also know some Greens and they're as clueless
and thick-headed as most repukes, they want Ralphie to run again and they'd vote for him again. And he's certainly egotistical, arrogant and selfish enough to do so. Ralph decides on his own what to do, the Greens won't have any say in it.

27. As opposed to the Centrists
who aren't "egotistical, arrogant and selfish enough to do so"?

As opposed to the Centrists, who are riding on Bill Clinton's laurels expecting everyone to just fork over their votes?

It didn't work in 2000, it didn't work in 2002 and it isn't going to work this time.

You can't run campaigns based on fear or anger.

Obviously Nader was right- things are going to have to get a lot worse until they can get better! Things are going to have to get a lot worse before enough Democrats say "F it! We've had enough of the closet Republicans in our party" and take the Democratic Party back to the people!

True, it's easier to Nader-bash thus drawing attention away from the issues that lost us votes. The path of least resistance... Intellectual laziness at its finest.

We have a choice of picking the best nominee. The Green Party says they'll back us if we pick Kucinich, But some people in our party want to go with a guy who has temporary popularity and whom it will be hard for any person of conscience to back.

Edited on Sun Aug-17-03 01:48 PM by Tinoire
If the Dems are that concerned about gaining Green votes, maybe our ever so "astute" leadership should put some effort into budging from their centrist positions and backing a candidate who embodies progressive ideas.

If Centrists won't budge, why the hell should Greens?

Ah yes, I remember now, it's because the Democratic Party no longer runs FOR anything- it just runs AGAINST other people.

Funny how the centrists don't have to budge from the center position- expecting that if they can get enough people to stand in the middle of the tracks with them the locomotive barrelling down won't run us all over!

Just when did DU take this drastic turn to the center by the way? Never mind. We all know when the Centrist operatives showed up- right before the primaries... Gee, what a surprise. I guess they thought people who have been so concerned with the issues for the last few years wouldn't notice and would buy into all this hysterical, childish drama.

29. That's uncomforably close to the truth if Nader's position, I'm afraid
That was the thinking of some liberals who voted for Ronald Raygun for governor of California way back when. "The people will hate this guy so much, we'll win the state back with a landslide." We all know how well that worked out.

will, on thier own, drop the Democratic Party like a hot potato if the Democratic Party refuses to run the type of candidate who can get all those ever-so-important votes people have spent years wailing about.

What's wrong with the leadership? Too selfish and egotistical to budge from their losing venter-of-the-road position?

Greens, at the Party's National Meeting, Affirm Plans to Run a Presidential Candidate in 2004; Establish an Outreach Campaign Among African-Americans.
GREEN PARTY OF THE UNITED STATES
For Immediate Release: Monday, July 21, 2003

Presidential hopefuls introduce themselves at a reception; Greens elect a new national Steering Committee.

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Greens, during their national meeting in Washington, D.C. this past weekend, affirmed the party's intention to run candidates for President and Vice President of the United States in 2004. The party also discussed plans to increase membership, and passed a proposal to expand outreach efforts among African Americans. The meeting took place July 18 to 20 at the Mayflower Hotel in Washington, D.C.

"This meeting produced a clear mandate for a strong Green Party presidential ticket in 2004," said Ben Manski, a Wisconsin Green and co-chair of the Green Party of the United States. "This meeting in Washington was a crossroads, and we chose the path of growth and establishing ourselves as the true opposition party."

Three presidential hopefuls -- David Cobb, Lorna Salzman, and Carol Miller -- spoke at a reception on Saturday evening, July 19 for Greens seeking the national nomination in 2004. Ralph Nader, Cynthia McKinney, and Paul Glover, all of whom are also considering national campaigns, sent statements that were read during the reception.

Greens also adopted an African-American Outreach proposal which authorizes authorizes the party to hire part-time staff for a campaign that includes enlisting the participation of prominent African-American political and religious leaders, cultural figures, scholars, and writers to speak out on matters of importance to both Greens and African-Americans. The outreach campaign will especially target historically black colleges and universities.

"The support Ralph Nader gained from some well-known African-American figures, including Randall Robinson, Danny Glover, and Chuck D was vital to Mr. Nader's campaign in 2000 and to the Green Party in general," said George Martin, Wisconsin Green Party co-spokesperson and co-chair of the national party's Black Caucus. "They helped us gain new membership and participation not just among African-Americans but all Americans who respect their leadership."

State delegates of the Green Party of the United States also elected new Steering Committee members: Ben Manski (reelected, from Wisconsin), Marnie Glickman (new member, from Oregon), Jo Chamberlain (reelected, from California), and party secretary Greg Gerritt (new member, from Rhode Island). Remaining from the last Steering Committee (terms are two years and elections are staggered) are Badili Jones (Georgia), Anita Rios (Ohio), and treasurer Jake Schneider (Wisconsin).
