F9/11: Seems Ellen Goodman (nicey poo liberal) thinks Moore is too shrill

Moore goes . . . over the top

By Ellen Goodman

Maybe it was because the man on my left was doing a play-by-play when any member of the Bush team came on the screen. Maybe it was because the movie theater was within pitching range of Fenway Park.

But halfway through ``Fahrenheit 9/11,'' I realized this wasn't an audience, it was a fan club. They weren't watching the movie, they were rooting for it.
....

But at some point, I also began to feel just a touch out of harmony. Not even this alto believes that the Iraq War was brought to us courtesy of the Bush-Saudi oil-money connection. Not even the rosiest pair of my retro-spectacles sees prewar Iraq as a happy valley where little children flew kites.

There were a few too many cheap shots among the direct hits, conspiracy theories among the solid facts, and tidbits of propaganda in the documentary. Going for the jugular, he sometimes went over the top.

Aw gee, Ellen, your right. Why, seeing the movie, one could get the impression that Bush's lies ARE A MATTER OF FUCKING LIFE AND DEATH. It's a good thing we have you to remind us we must always oppose tyranny with our pinkys up.

Gad, I just hate the Designated Opposition.

pretend "liberal" journalists who take offense at every effort by the left to fight back. They are so "above it all". They are responsible for the 2000 election fiasco AND Iraq.

5. Never heard of her? Seriously?
Ellen Goodman's been a national columnist for many, many years. I think she also had a column in a national new magazine (Newsweek?), but don't know that for sure.

Her topics are mostly women's issues from a liberal perspective.

Straddling this razor sharp fence will be impossible.

Let's cut to the chase, is it truthful or not, Ellen?

7. Like we don't have enough knuckle dragging Repugs doing this.
We get a latte-drinking alleged liberal following suit.

We should tthrow her against the same wall we throw Rove, Rumsfeld Cheney and W after Kerry wins.

10. She seems horrified that people cheered the movie.
She seems horrified that people cheered the movie.

Does that bother her about any other movie which makes the audience cheer, or is it just anti-Bush movies which mustn't do that?

13. We should give the movie the same kind of gentle attention
That the RW does on this and all issues. I'm sure Limpbag, Coulter, and their ilk would say it was a "just a little over the top" also.

14. Ellen, you ignorant slut...
"Not even the rosiest pair of my retro-spectacles sees prewar Iraq as a happy valley where little children flew kites."
.:grr: :grr: :grr: :grr:

No Ellen, nothing "retro" is needed. Just a pair of clear lenses would have been all you needed to see who we were bombing. Some of us don't need hindsight to see what was happening to innocent civilians. Sure, you see it now in your rearview mirror and still you squirm and look away. Too many nice polite liberals like you let 10,000 Iraqis die horrible deaths. Yes, they flew kites, they ate in cafes, went to work, to school, and while they did this you bombed them. Believe it or not, Ellen, the entire population of pre-war Iraq was not herded into a prison waiting for Saddam to torture them. It was actually a modern, functioning civil society, that had a homicidal lunatic for a leader (sound familiar?). Stop wasting your time going to movies, instead spend some at the library learning about who the Iraqis are. (I can't imagine you even have a passport, or I would suggest a educational visit to Iraq. I bet you are one of those who never leave the cruise ship because "it's soooooo Third World".)
Ellen, as your soulmate Dick Cheney would say, go F*** yourself.
Have a lovely day

18. It's the old liberal fear of being portrayed as too "extreme"
for the mainstream. It works like a charm...why do you think we always see so many appeals to "tone it down" here on DU?

17. All Ms. Goodman is saying is -
that maybe the left doesn't need to go down the same knuckle dragging path that the right has when it comes to political discourse. I'm not sure I agree with her completely when it comes to Mr. Moore, but judging from some of the posts on this thread, maybe she has a point?

23. Well, this basso does think the Iraq War (and much of the War on Terror)..
was brought with heaping gobs of help "courtesy of the Bush-Saudi oil-money connection".

And one of the things that has driven me wild for the past three years was the absolute refusal of the "polite left" to believe that Bush was capable of horrible deeds born of even more horrible motives.

There are lots of neat ones, and you don't hear these people complaining, but let someone say nice things about Michael Moore and they are screded out

I think it was PNAC.....and you know what? I don't care. I love the movie and if Moore wants to stress that aspect, it's his privilege to do so.
