The blackout shows how incredibly open we are to more deadly terrorism.
I don't mean to scare anyone or put ideas in anyone's head, but all that this latest episode said to me was how vulnerable we still are. Let me elaborate:

All it takes is for a terrorist to sabotage a power plant in a major metropolitan area, then hundreds of thousands of people begin to walk places like Brooklyn Bridge, and that's the perfect place for a terrorist group to plant a dirty bomb.

People should be screaming right about now for Bush League to step up it's fight on terrorism, because we're still vulnerable.

2. Well you can't stop that
Anyplace is vulnerable, at any time, and all the guards in the world can't stop it.

That's why you solve the problem at the source instead of just bombing them.

3. Just think of how vulnerable the M.E. is to
American/Zionist terrorism.

The lights haven't been on for months in Iraq, nor water, nor food.

The Iraqis are fighting to get their country back, and our countrymen are put in the line of fire to suppress them and rape their resources.

The threats we face from their attempts at retribution are trivial compared to the damage we inflict on them.....so far.

4. Yeah, well they could...
just plant that bomb in Rockefeller Center without a blackout. During the Christmas tree lighting would be a fun time. Or maybe during a parade?

Or blow a few tunnels, which would really screw things up for months-- or years.

Lots of things they could do if they wanted to. Most times, it seems we're safe largely because they don't want to.

Terrorists are way down on my list of things to worry about. Traffic on Route 22 and utilities saving money are a bit further up there.

5. I Have a Much Different Take
How about we stop swaggering and start working with the rest of the world constructively?
How about we live up to the principles we espouse in our foreign policy practices? Like not propping up Arab dictators such as the odious Saudi regime?
How about we strengthen international institutions such as the U.N. and the World Court rather than try to undermine them?
How about we bother to learn more about the rest of the world and talk about their problems rather than Laci Peterson or Kobe Bryant?
How about we fully fund public broadcasting to deliver quality, unbiased news coverage around the world along with the BBC?
How about we restore respect for due process for "enemy combatants"?
How about we elect a president who understands how to accomplish these security goals and more?

7. Government is not concerned about it.
It's a private matter, and any costs due to transmission grid improvement and security will be passed on to consumers. If you want Halliburton security guards watching over the power grid, be expected to pay through the nose...Of course look for no research into root causes of people (anybody who has a grudge and some explosives, really) who would actually want to do this...the regime is always right and is unwaveringly correct in it's policies...Research is always secondary to their already decided plan of action. But I do think this has given some people ideas as to how to create chaos, and unfortunately we have a "leadership" who weighs and balances the benefits of allowing things to happen in order to improve their popularity, therefore their chances of staying in power.
