WH Press Corpse TRIES TO CONFRONT McClellan about dirty campaign
Edited on Tue Jul-06-04 07:37 PM by LittleApple81
tricks... not very successfully because McClellan is shameless. But he comes out looking like the fool robot he is!
during press conference:

snip...
Q Scott, on that point, the President has talked about changing the tone in Washington, to making the debate more civil. But the Republican National Committee put out this statement on Edwards, calling him "disingenuous and unaccomplished." The Bush-Cheney campaign put out talking points saying that Senator Edwards "delivers his pessimism with a southern drawl and a smile." Is that helpful?

MR. McCLELLAN: Well, I mean, is there something in there you're disputing? (Laughter.) I think it's perfectly reasonable to talk about the differences on the issues and to talk about the record. And I think that's what you're seeing being discussed here by the campaign and by the RNC. The President believes that we should focus on the policy differences and focus on the leadership styles, and that's what he will continue to do as we move forward on this campaign.

Q So you're agreeing with those statements then, that he is disingenuous and unaccomplished?

MR. McCLELLAN: Like I said, it's perfectly legitimate to talk about the issues and the differences on those issues, as well as to discuss the record. There are individuals in this race who have records, and those records are a reflection of how they would lead in office.

Q You don't seen this as personal attacks, you see this as policy --

MR. McCLELLAN: Suzanne, there are clear choices in this election, and the President wants the discussion to focus on the issues and the differences on those issues. There are clear choices and there are clear philosophical differences for the voters, come November. And the President will keep this focused on the issues and talking about his positive vision for the way forward for our country.

Q So you don't have a problem with the language and the tone?

MR. McCLELLAN: Like I said, it's perfectly legitimate to talk about the issues and the differences and to talk about the record.

Q Can I follow in that vein? Has the President ever had a word with the Vice President about his use of profanity in the United States Senate?

MR. McCLELLAN: Ed, I've previously discussed this issue. This issue came up while we were, I believe, in Ireland, and I addressed it at that point. And that's where it stands.

Q So the answer is, no, the President has not --

MR. McCLELLAN: Well, the President has regular conversations with the Vice President.

Q But about that issue?

snip...

Q So let me see if I've got this straight. The President will continue to talk about the issues and the record. And the RNC and the campaign will continue to put out statements about Kerry's disingenuousness and liberal tendencies?

MR. McCLELLAN: Well, I think that --

Q You'll have sort of a two-track thing going here, right?

MR. McCLELLAN: I don't -- I don't think I agree with your characterization. I think that it's, like I said, perfectly legitimate to point out the differences and to discuss the record. And that's what campaigns are about. The voters deserve to know what the choices are, and they deserve to have an honest discussion of the differences and an honest discussion of the records.

Q What about the rhetoric? What about the rhetoric and the changing of the tone?

MR. McCLELLAN: I just don't agree with the way you characterized -- the way you characterize it.

Q But the moment you called a person disingenuous, Scott, you're no longer talking about the record. You're talking about their personality, aren't you, when you call him, disingenuous?

MR. McCLELLAN: As I said --

Q That's a personal --

MR. McCLELLAN: As I said, James, we've been through this issue. I think I've addressed it. The President is going to continue to focus on the issues and the differences and the choices that voters face. And he'll continue to talk about his vision and his leadership for the future of America.

5. I've been waiting
for the Press Corp to turn.

This is sweet. The WH has become so emboldened that they think no one is playing attention to their fake "changing the tone" BS.

Kerry reached out to McCain to change the tone. Now the Repugs are using this to trash Kerry. Me thinks this a round that Kerry will win.

7. If the election isn't stolen, it will become more and more obvious that
we have three large corporations feeding us bull, right wing bull. And worse than that, they conspire to damage Democrats. Using a hunk of public money - that's our money. It is time for a Democratic TV network. The CEO's and Board of Directors are never going to give up their corporate investment in our right wing administation and its structure and cabal. They will not go down together, that is why it will become more and more obvious that three corporations are wholeheartedly against the Democrats in a conspiratorial pact. Where is our Democratic TV network? Is Gore still working on it?

between scum lying pigs and those that support them and human beings.

Pick a side, buddy, history is taking notes.

11. This surprises you?
This dickwad double-talks and avoids the hard questions all the time. It's his job to give non-answer answers or to outright lie to the WH press corp. And they usually bend over and take it. I'm somewhat amazed they found their spines today and asked the kind of tough questions that they should have been asking of this administration all along. It will be interesting to see if they keep it up until the election.

14. An amazing interview.
The only thing I can add to this is, that as long as they continue with the hate-mongering, the lying, the distortion of truth, the arrogance, people will continue to get turned off and turn THEM OFF of the TV.

Think of it: the general population of the US has been hammered for 3 1/2 years with nothing but lies, distortions, and pure vile hatred. How long can people stand this? How long can THEY stand to emit this garbage, before people get completely disgusted and turn away.

Now look at the HUGE turnout to 9/11. This should tell us that people are thirsting for the truth.

17. Agree. If the corporations who own the media let them ask questions,
these people are not dumb. Protecting their jobs has been their primary concern up to now.

16. another great exchange re: WMD lies
Q And on a related issue, has the President come to an independent determination about whether the mobile biological laboratories actually existed based on the intelligence he's being given now, or, in other words, is he in agreement yet with his Secretary of State?

MR. McCLELLAN: Well, as you are aware, we are learning more over time about the purposes of those labs. The last public comment I recall on this was by Director Tenet. But we have continued to learn more --

Q The last public comment was by Secretary Powell.

MR. McCLELLAN: In terms of the intelligence community and what they represented was by Director Tenet a few months ago. We have continued to learn more since that time, and I think you should address those questions to our intelligence community in terms of what the latest information we have about those laboratories.

Q They'll tell us.

Q You're not yet in agreement with your Secretary of State?

MR. McCLELLAN: Like I said, that -- as the Secretary of State pointed out, we have been learning more about those mobile labs. But the last word from the intelligence community that was stated publicly was by Director Tenet. And so that's the last information I have.

Q He didn't say we've been learning more. He said it was false and he regretted saying it, that we've been misled, I think was his phrase.

MR. McCLELLAN: The last public comments he stated?

Q By the Secretary of State was that we had been misled.

MR. McCLELLAN: No, by Director Tenet, the last public comments were that there was some differences of opinion about what they were for. But that's why I pointed out that we have learned more from that information. I'm not aware of any further public update from the intelligence community at this time. So that's the information that we go on at this point.

Q The Secretary of State might have had an update.

MR. McCLELLAN: Well, like I said, we have been learning more since that time period.

Q And he said he was sorry.

MR. McCLELLAN: Go ahead.
