1. I don't have a problem with that idea at all
Edited on Tue Jul-06-04 08:41 PM by jpgray
But if we're going to excoriate him for doing something wrong, we should be ready with praise when he does something right as well.

3. Yep, that is the plan. First get him in and then make sure
we stop the invasions and this very bad foreign policy and the disastrous outsourcing.

With our support we can get him in, but once in without our support he will not be able to continue Bush's policies.

Edited on Tue Jul-06-04 09:04 PM by wyldwolf
..the original poster didn't specify Iraq but rather said "protest" in the general sense - - - and some on the left do love to protest anything that offends them (which is A LOT of things.)

12. and your point is?
By my counting there is about 25 years of conservative damage to be undone. Are you suggesting that there are not a very large number of serious issues to be addressed?

I find most everything the rightwing has done offensive at some level, and they have done alot.

"some on the left" feel compelled to speak against injustice, and there is plenty of it out there.

10. And why not.
Are you saying we should be behind Zell Miller and Joe Leiberman just because they wear a "D" after their name and title?

When someone is never criticized or never has his or her mistakes pointed out, that person will never develop into a better person. It is that very reason why Repukes ares till stuck in their 50's, racist, theocratic, sexist mindset.

22. Are they the Pres and VP nominee?
Edited on Wed Jul-07-04 05:45 AM by wyldwolf
All I'm saying that protesting (re: bitching and moaning) for the sake of doing it (or to make oneself feel superior), especially when there is a democratic administration, only confirms what many say about the party: We eat our own.

Protest whatever is on your conscience.

19. What the heck is wrong with pushing for a better America?
What the heck is wrong with trying to get 100% of Americans covered with Health Insurance?

What the heck is wrong with trying to help hard working moderate and low income Americans earn a Living Wage?

What the heck is wrong with trying to stop the FTAA and other assorted "free trade" agreements before they finish our insane decent into Corporate Autocracy?

What the heck is wrong with not wanting the Poverty level status quo to remain the status quo?

What the heck is wrong with demanding an end to an Immoral, Unethical, Perhaps Illegal, Occupation of Iraq?

What the heck is wrong with wanting to stop the increasing separation/division of Income Groups in America and Levelling things out a tad?

What the heck is wrong with being a concerned, active, Progressive Citizen?

One-two-three-four what the heck are we fighting for? The status quo? 42,000,000 uninsured people? 10-15% Poverty Levels? Falling Wages and Benefits? A Service Only Economy?

Huh? I'm not following you here?

Raise the bar mate. Expect greater things.

14. First we get Kerry elected, THEN
Edited on Tue Jul-06-04 09:20 PM by Senior citizen

we take advantage of a Democratic incumbency to work 1000 times as hard for sanity before this damn 2-party system gives us another puke.

On edit: We don't deserve another chance, but maybe we'll get one anyway. Let's see what we've learned.

23. The Point
Change doesn't come at the hands of "great men", much less Presidents. Change happens as a result of popular movements.

The unfortunate fact is that Kerry owes just as much to big business as Bush. However, Kerry is more susceptible to popular pressure because the Democrats to some degree also rely on labor, feminists, and so on.

So potentially, things can change significantly under Kerry. But only if we make them change. Otherwise, he'll continue down the current disastrous path, though perhaps not at the same death-defying pace.
