the plame story: it is vital to contact the media and ask
about this and why is this going on/it needs to be covered. given that there is a grand jury investigation going on, we have something we can get behind, and actually contribute to exposing the truth here. this may be one instance where lack of political will to do anything by the gop controlled govt cannot "erase" what we know is going on.

sibel edmonds is also an important case though that one is being blocked in a coordinated way by our reps and ashcroft. at least there was an article yesterday i think in the boston globe. i emailed the writer to say thank you so much for reporting on this.

i know that many have been reading the lengthy and vital exchange of the plame threads. but as with much of the original threads, h20 makes this vital point and his suggestion is the reason im even posting this separate thread:

read joe kleins article in the july 5th time magazine regarding this issue, then write or contact your local media, online media, whatever you want
and please ask "why"?

thank you. i dont know if many will read this but given the bulk of the plame threads (where all the good information is) i just wanted to write out a separate post to encourage all to get involved.

theres so much going on right now i know, but this really could be a foundation upon which we can build something....

we have to try - dont we?

3. Sieze the day!
How cool if we can get ahead of this one. It's big, maybe bigger than Watergate. But if we can get letters in the local and mainstream media before it really breaks we can really give it legs. The oowers that be will try to bury it so we need to speak up.

6. I wholeheartedly agree
I also feel Sibel Edmonds and the child abuse scandals need more airplay, but we've got to stick with one thing at a time I think. Lord knows we're dealing with simpletons.

9. thats right! in plame thread #3 i posted my letter to some major media
its not the best example by any stretch, but its just a bit i can and we can do to at least keep asking the media to address our important questions.

although there are so many! we have to somehow prioritize when possible

as ive mentioned, perhaps here, we have a grand jury investigation. we have a chance with this situation for something to happen that is long overdue

but we at least have something being looked into! and its also incredibly serious so i think we take that combination and work at it in whatever way we can

ive emailed a couple major newspapers (plame thread 3) and also cnn.
its just a start.

11. Any contact is great, but there's added benefit to snail mail.
Please note what a fellow DUer posted once-upon-a-time. A conventional letter or card is something tangible that can be held in the hand, passed around and looked at, posted on the bulliten board in the coffee room or the mail room, xeroxed, and waved in the air in the middle of the newsroom. As a concrete exhibit, it is hard to refute, deny, or ignore. Something about it being rendered on paper.

"IF YOU REALLY WANT TO DO SOMETHING...make a phone call or send a paper letter. E-mails are quick and cheap and don't carry the weight of a phone call or a PAPER LETTER. Paul Begala says a hundred paper letters would change the direction of a news program." – DUer grasswire, 5/20/04

You know what they say about paper trails...

8. the media can't cover nothing
and until indictments do come out or any announcements about the grand jury are made, what do you suggest they say? Sure, we should never let the press forget about it--but there's nothing for them to report as yet, not until a statement by the prosecutor or Justice come out--(and it might not--remember grand juries are secret!) We have to be patient.

10. joe klein just wrote an important piece in time magazine. so there
are things that can be investigated or reported on.

i know that there is a lot of important things that are not being covered. its at least getting the drumbeat going and letting them know we want them to be part of exposing this story and not once again burying it.

theres nothing perfect, i know. but we have a gj investigation and im sorry but im just not going to let the * corp once again get rid of the evidence or the investigation without me putting up some fight (so to speak)

joe klein wrote about some pieces of this for perhaps the first time this week in major media. informing * and co that we can get the information out that there are severe problems in their wh world.

i dont have any answers and i do ask for everyones feedback. i just have to try and when i read h20 in the plame thread point out the time article and encouraging us to contact media well that really got it started for me.
