Why?

What the heck is wrong with pushing for a better America?

Because it's WRONG to stop trying to get 100% of Americans covered with Health Insurance!

Because it's WRONG to stop trying to help hard working moderate and low income Americans to earn a Living Wage!

Because it's WRONG to stop trying to defeat the FTAA and other assorted "free trade" agreements before they finish off our insane descent into Corporate Autocracy!

Because it's WRONG to stop trying to reform/destroy a system that accepts a reletively high Poverty level status qou for its existance!

Because it's WRONG to stop demanding an end to an Immoral, Unethical, Perhaps Illegal, Occupation of Iraq!

Because it's WRONG to stop fighting the increasing separation/division of Income Groups in America (and Levelling things out a tad)!

What the heck is wrong with being a concerned, active, Progressive Citizen?

NOTHING.

One-two-three-four what the heck are we fighting for? The status quo? 42,000,000 uninsured people? 10-15% Poverty Levels? Falling Wages and Benefits? A "Service Only" Economy?

That's crap IMHO.

Raise the bar people. Expect greater things.

PS~ Let me add that I like Kerry, and like Edwards a bit better, but they have to be pushed dammit.

EDIT: Protesting is just a part of the bigger picture so I changed it to "Activism".

1. Right on
Kerry said he wants us to march.

He told a group of veterans that they should march for proper healthcare, etc.

2. protesting is ok, but working to get people to the polls and vote
so we actually get a congress that will pass these things is more important. clinton did not have a democratic congress for most of his time in office. in the first couple of years he did have them he did things like raise taxes, family leave, brady bill, etc. but then republicans took control and clinton wasn't able to get everything he wanted done.

6. but he did have a Democratic congress in 12/94
when both parties rushed through support for the hideous WTO ... let's not hand out any sainthoods just yet ...

source: http://www.sfherald.com/columnists/capozzola/capozzola24.html

One could ask why both Democrats and Republicans voted so eagerly for free trade agreements that have begun to dismantle the American economy. The answer, unfortunately, appears to simply be money. A mere 200 corporations conduct roughly one-third of the world's economic activity. They are the huge multinational corporations ("transnationals") that have benefited the most from free trade. And they are also the chief employers of Washington lobbyists, a 20,000-strong workforce that assigns 38 registered lobbyists to each member of Congress. The answer to why Congress happily invited the WTO into the American backyard might be found in the generous, creative campaign contributions doled out by such lobbying groups.

as to your point about working hard to get Kerry elected, i'm totally on board with that ...

Perhaps if they do something to stop the hemorrhaging, but not until then.

8. Positive activism will enable liberal dems
And that's what they need. Activism that's meangingful doesn't mean marching against those who are the best we've got. It means organizing those who aren't voting for them. It means helping to popularize populist issues. That's what's been missing for way too long.
