'Senator Kerry picked Daddy!'
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/afp/us_vote_kerry_edwards

PITTSBURGH, United States (AFP) - Elizabeth Edwards learned her husband would be the vice presidential candidate on the Democratic ticket when she emerged dripping wet from a shower and was told by her five-year-old daughter "Senator Kerry picked Daddy!"

Ok, I know we all heard, but I thought that this was so cute.

2. How fun it will be to have little kids in the administration again!
Christmas at the White House, etc...of course the right wing will make fun of their physical characteristics but this will be too cute!

6. That was my thought

One of Bushes twins is kind of chubby but democrats don't make fun of physical appearance like the right wingers do. I can see it now that they are going to start in on the wifes weight. They are a normal size but they have to find a flaw and it's going to be weight.

I dare say they'd better not pick on Mrs. Edwards for her weight.

11. I had no idea that was his wife....he has three kids?
Jeez...from the pic I thought the skinny one was his wife, and the other one was a babysitter. Big age difference between the oldest and younger ones. I know, I shouldn't have jumped to conclusions that a good looking guy automatically has a wife as good looking...plus she probably was a while back. Now don't jump down my throat, I'm just speaking plainly....wife is nodding in agreement in the background.

12. They had another son
Edited on Tue Jul-06-04 10:33 PM by testing123
He was hit by a car and ended up dying. He would have been older then the his oldest daughter.

The wife doesn't look old to me.

Edited on Tue Jul-06-04 10:31 PM by Lex
who was more the age of the older daughter. That was back in 1996.

Subsequently he and his wife had more kids. The loss of their son affected them greatly and propelled Edwards into politics.

Just fyi, here is a nice site about Wade Edwards, John Edwards' son who died.

The page is from the Wade Edwards' Foundation site.

30. Have you see pics of Elizabeth Edwards when she was in college
Edited on Wed Jul-07-04 08:29 AM by scmirage
and when they first got married? She was gorgeous. I dare say that having one child at 48 and the other at 50 probably did a number of her body. But she's still a very attractive women and my guess is that older women voters will appreciate that she's got a few extra pounds on her. And I know that I certainly appreciate the story about her having these last two children so late in life and what they went through to get them here. And they are absolutely adorable children!

long enough then. There are some nasty, mean people on DU ( don't know if they are Democrats or not) and they say hateful things about every Repub. or even another Dem if they don't like them. Just wait.

19. Your right
I have seen attacks on democrats on this board because some people don't like each other. Instead of putting someone on ignore they would prefer to attack their politics and ways.

I agree with you.

4. His kids are adorable
We are going to watch them grow up.

What I am worried about is the right wing press and the freepers making fun of the wife being overweight.

To me she is a normal size but they will start picking out her flaws and weight is going to be what they go after.

I hope that they don't start on his teenage daughter being a normal size.

He has a beautiful family and the right wingers are going to be jealous of that.

That Edwards' kids won't have a fake ID in a bar with the SS and media covering it up.

They're too young and he's too caring as a parent AND a human being to allow that to happen.

8. Such a cute story! Such a lovely family!

And Elizabeth Edwards will steal America's heart, I predict.

She is an accomplished lawyer in her own right:

"She is the daughter of a decorated Navy pilot, Mary Elizabeth Anania was born on July 3, 1949. In her early years, she attended school in Japan, where her father was stationed with a reconnaissance squadron, flying missions over China and North Korea.

As an undergraduate at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Mrs. Edwards majored in English. She went on to study American literature but then switched to law, graduating from UNC Law School in May 1977. She married John Edwards on July 30th, the Saturday after taking the bar exam.

Like her husband, Mrs. Edwards possesses an accomplished legal background. Following law school, she clerked with U.S. District Court Judge Calvitt Clarke, Jr. in Norfolk, Virginia. She worked for the North Carolina Attorney General's office in the early 1980s, where she did work for the Department of Natural Resources and Community Development and the Comprehensive Employment and Training Act.

From 1984 to 1996, Mrs. Edwards worked at the Raleigh law firm Merriman, Nicholls, and Crampton. In the early 1990s, Mrs. Edwards taught legal writing as an adjunct instructor at UNC Law School for two years, and in 1996-97, she was a member of the first group of Public Fellows at the College of Arts and Sciences at UNC."

Legal experience, a command of English, practical knowledge of other cultures and people and knowledgeable about Natural Resources and Community Development.

Kinda puts Cheneys' wife's novel about lesbians and Pickles' expertise with "Curious George And The Man With The Yellow Hat" on the back burner, doesn't it?

21. Wow she went to school in Japan?
Thats awesome. I wonder if she can speak Japanese? In any event, she sounds a lot like a certain other recent First Lady. Strong, smart, savvy, and accomplished.

Look at the huge difference between Dem wives and Repuke wives. On one side you have the true meaning of "Girl Power", on the other side, its like glimpse back into the Middle Ages.

How refreshing would that be?

29. She's very pretty
and looks much younger than her age.

What happens to women who have children later in life is that people see the little children and assume we are younger than we are. (And that we just look old!) When I took my first son to kindergarten, I was a forty-something in a roomful of twenty- and thirty-somethings. But over time, since my kids have been in school, I've formed friendships with several of the "older moms" because we have a lot in common.

I think Elizabeth Edwards, like John, looks at least ten years younger than her actual age.

31. She looks like a lot of women with chidren that I know,
incredibly busy, feeding peanut butter and jelly to the kids and trying to do 20 things at once. It takes time to do an exercize routine and eat a healthy diet that keeps your weight down after age 35. Once the kids get older, they usually find more time to devote to fitness. I think she is really pretty too.
