Imagine a scenario where JK, having won in 2004, is challenged
by McCain in 2008. Let's say the 2 are still friends. What if they ran a campaign on the actual issues and refrained from negatively campaigning against one another? Of course we all know neg. ads are effective, that's why campaigns spend so much on them, 'specially the pubbies. But what if the candidates just refused to demonize one another?

Could such a thing ever happen in this country?

(In his best Theodoric of York voice): Naaahhhh!

But it is something that I just thought about, tonight.

2. sure it could...
remember, the 96 race between Clinton and Dole was very issues-oriented. They truly liked and respected each other. It's possible to have a decent campaign when a Bush isn't involved.

6. As far as Republicans go, Bob Dole's a decent guy
Granted I'm glad he never became president but he has much more integrity than the Bush administration.

3. McCain
would not be allowed to win the puke nomination. Even if they were desperate to beat Kerry they are too stupid to go with anyone other than a far-rightwinger.

4. Besides, I hear McCain is a little crazy
too many years in a prison camp.

7. I think if you get the right people it could happen
I remember reading that John Kennedy and Barry Goldwater were actually going to travel together by plane and have debates all over the country before JFK was assassinated. Goldwater back then had a way crazier reputation than McCain does now I think.
