Uh Oh, Wired is doing a piece on political blogs, DU is mentioned |
|
He is not very favorable, but it isn't nasty. Here is the part on DU: For instance, the Kerry campaign exchanges links with the Democratic Underground, which employs an Ann Landers-type columnist named "Auntie Pinko," who fields readers' questions on Iraq, the economy and online casinos. Another columnist offered Kerry advice on the campaign, telling him he looks "presidential" when measured against "Dubya Doofus." In "The Top Ten Conservative Idiots #152," an anonymous scribbler noted that John Ashcroft "turned down an FBI request for hundreds more agents to be assigned to tracking terrorist threats," and adds: "Damn you, Bill Clinton and your terrorist-loving penis! Look what you made John Ashcroft do!" And conservative pundit Bill Kristol is called "a jackass" in Idiots #160.
"Dubya Doofus"? "Pinko"? "Penis"? "Jackass"? How un-presidential.
Not only that, but in the past, the Democratic Underground's front page also promoted a satire penned by a man who calls himself Eddie Ruff. In a futuristic "what if" scenario set in 2007, he warns what America will be like if Bush wins re-election: "And too bad North Korea had that awful nuclear accident. What a shame. And after we'd sent all those gay soldiers there to invade that horrible country. Too bad it's gone -- it would have given all those other young whippersnappers another country to occupy like we've got the blacks and Mexicans doing in Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran and Syria."
I don't mean to single out the Democratic Underground. After all, the Kerry website links to Kicking Ass -- the Democratic National Committee's official blog, and BeatBushBlog, whose purveyor asked recently: "How many different wars can our 'war president' fuck up? The war in Iraq, the war in Afghanistan, the 'war on drugs,' the 'war on terror'...." I'm sure John Kerry would agree with the sentiments, but I bet he wouldn't endorse the language. (Although Vice President Dick Cheney, who recently told Sen. Patrick J. Leahy to "fuck himself" after Leahy questioned Cheney's Halliburton ties on the Senate floor, might.)
Not too bad, I kinda like us from the description. the rest of the article: http://www.wired.com/news/culture/0,1284,64113,00.html?tw=wn_tophead_3
