One Very Positive Aspect Of Edwards' Candidacy

It has been mentioned on the news, but I think it cannot be emphasized enough, both because it is true and also because it reveals (at least to me) that the Democrats are more united than ever in efforts to take back Congress as well as the White House.

Several media types have said that Edwards on the ticket will cause the races in several swing states to be very close - and that even if Bush wins that swing state, it will be by a razor thin margin. This razor thin margin will affect the house and senate races in that state, and in fact - democrats stand a much better chance of winning those races. So the Kerry strategy is intertwined with the party strategy of working to take back the WH and take back one or both houses of congress. So even if Edwards cannot put NC in Kerry's column (I am not conceding NC at this point) - Edwards on the ticket will surely make the NC race very close, and perhaps tip the senate race in favor of the Democratic contender Bowles.

It also means (and this has also been said) that Republicans will have to spend money in states that they thought were "safe" republican states. I like this as it evens out the playing field considerably.

I am greatly encouraged by this aspect of Edwards' candidacy because it reveals great strategy and recognition of the entire situation.

1. I am excited about the cosmetic aspect of Edwards' candidacy.
When pondering the course of debates, Edwards, seated next to Cheney, will render Cheney with all the sex appeal of a booger.

To your points: Edwards may be able to articulate more gracefully the sentiments that Dean expressed when explaining how southerners tend to vote against their own best interests. Republicans push issues of God, Guns and Gays to garner southern votes - then push for legislation that ships their jobs overseas for the sake of corporate profit.
