Will media "wake up" when they realize who'll be buttering their bread?
I couldn't help but think, after watching Katy Couric do her best to trash the dynamic duo this morning...when will they realize they're going to need to start kissing some dem ass instead of kicking it? After all, they're going to need favors from this admin, just like they did from Bush. Seems like the people in charge will have to reach a tipping point where it is no longer in their best interest to keep trashing the future president.

Or am I being a Pollyanna?

2. Oh, cripes! Did you see Liddy Dole?
She was bleating the line that Bush means what he says and does it and holds to his opinion. Somebody please tell the stupid woman that it's only a good quality if one's opinions are the right ones, that if one is finding out that some things are not working he should have the flexibility to rethink the situation and come up with a plan that does work!

Sheesh, these guys are desperate.

3. If there were any real journalists around, they would
have been fair and balanced from the beginning, even going back to Gore 2000. Either real journalists are not bred anymore or the Repub party has hired all of them. I don't see any change frankly Just because the Repubs will not be in charge after Nov doesn't mean the money will stop flowing. I used to be Pollyanna. I have become one of the most cynical people alive today.

4. The dems never seem to punish the media for attacking them whether
in power or not. So my guess is they will continue to attack even after the election of Kerry/Edwards. I think it's more a case of who they are afraid of then who they want to win favor with.

As far as Couric goes, if she can't somehow bring the focus of an interview around to being about her, it always puts her in a bitter mood. IMHO.

5. Corporate Media Won't Wise Up
I doubt that the corporate media will wise up. The corporate media will continue to kiss this administration's and the Republican Party's, er--rings--all the way up to Inauguration Day and beyond.

Should John Kerry be inaugurated this January, the corporate media will magically turn into the combative, investigative, probing news organs they claim to be after spending the last three and a half year "presstituting" themselves for Dubya and the GOP.

"Liberal media," my arse!

11. Tax exemption for media
Here is the Republican strategy for controlling the media:

> Buy up all the media oulets.

> Raise the pay of the Bigfoot reporters, anchors and pundits up in to the $200,000 to $10 million dollars per year.

> Give them a little while to fully comprehend the complelling logic of cutting taxes for the rich.

> Stand back and let them work.

What we need to do to respond is exclude from taxable income all compensation earned in the pursuit of truth, the reporting of real news, and the act of displaying courage.

6. You're making an assumption friend,
You are assuming that the political machinery in power is the one that pays the media whores. Wrongo, it is the RW corporate masters who own the media outlet who have bought the media whore, lock, stock and barrel. This should have been made obvious during the Clinton scandal. No, once Kerry is in, the RW corporate masters will crank their media smear machine up to high gear. And sad to say, the Kerry administration will respond like the Clintons did, with grace and forbearance, and won't call the media on it's blatant RW spin.

7. Ouch. But I fear you're correct
Tweety already pointed out this morning that the RNC is going over every Edwards legal case with a fine-tooth comb, looking for a pitard on which to hoist him. Okay...so normally I'm pretty much Mr. Cynical myself, but hey, there is always HOPE!

8. No--in addition to taking back our country--
we've got to take back the media too. And Kerry can begin by bringing back the fairness doctrine. We've also got to limit ownership of multiple media outlets in the same city by the same company. And more importantly, we, as citizens, have to let our voices be heard in opposing this RW propaganda every single time we hear it being spouted by some RW thug or these journalist impersonators. Fire off e-mails, call them--write them. Do whatever you can to express your displeasure in their biased "reporting".

9. imagine the resistance Kerry will be facing,
from the same forces that managed to impeach a president over a triviality.
How will the media spin Kerry's arguments for bringing back a rule that would be to the disadvantage to the owners of those very same media? What counter arguments are to be expected, and how much of it?

10. Exactly.
What do we need to do to start a real petition that can become a bill and then a law?

Waht would be the easiest thing to get passed? Anyone here familiar with media ownership rules right now? How do we go back to 1 media outlet per town owned by one of these giants? I don't know enough legal stuff to devise the language.

It's going to mean major divesting by many companies, but this HAS to be done.

I think we should get walter Cronkite to help kick off a new media corp. He has always personified an unbiased media. We need his help again to show everyone how crazy things have gotten.
