Stop it with the TRIAL LAWYER REPUG MEME. Edwards is an
EXCELLENT lawyer. I have had the need to use four lawyers at different times for personal and employment reasons. Two of them have not been "shining lights of honesty" or very effective but the other two were EXCELLENT and helped me very well.
By the same token, I have had contact with several MEDICAL DOCTORS and the proportion of unqualified, lying, unprepared, stupid, and borderline criminal doctors (because of their ignorance and their unwillingness to examine the situation thoroughly)has been overwhelming.
So if Edwards were a medical doctor and the repugs would say "HORROR, he is a medical doctor!!!" I would be more willing to worry about it being an accurate perception.

STOP REPEATING THIS MEME CRAP!!!!

1. The reason Republicans hate lawyers so much.....

...is because lawyers are the only ones who can challenge BS laws and impositions on our rights that the Republicans would like to do impose on us.

THAT is the reason. It's also the reason why the majority of lawyers are democrats.

3. They liked lawyers ok in 2000.
The Republicans liked the judges (who are also lawyers) who stopped the recount in 2000.

4. Everyone likes to hate lawyers
until they need one. Sooner or later, most of us need one. Pay them no mind it's just their hypocrisy speaking-again.

5. One of the finest people I know...
Is a lawyer, and yes, he does trials. Real lawyers do.

Repukes are assholes who are in the midst of pissing off a well-cashed constituency. Geniuses one and all, repukes.

7. Actually we might want to challange
this very directly. I mean Republicans apparently hate open court situations; they hate judges, they hate juries, they hate lawyers, they have a little bit of sympathy for district attorneys, so long as they are "tough on crime." They hate courts.

So what is their solution?
- Appointed and easily bribed and controlled magistrates?
- Secret tribunals?

9. Good. I hope the Kerry/Edwards campaign does something like this.
and calling Edwards "The People's lawyer" like suggested by somebody in this thread sounds good too.

8. Attacks on 'trial lawyers' are really attacks on juries
A 'trial lawyer' is merely a lawyer who takes cases to trial, ergo juries. Why do we let the right-wingers set the terms of debate like this?

10. And when they
cry about tort reform, they owuld be much better off calling it "Fucking over the injured." Since that's what it is.

11. Today, I'm saving a man from bankruptcy.
I have been working to help him get out from under a mountain of debt for almost two years and today we close a deal that will finally allow him to get his financial life back. For the past two years I have carried his bill and expected no payment until I resolved his situation. My client thinks I am the greatest thing that ever happened to him. When people are in very dire straits, sometimes lawyers are the only ones there to help.

12. Wasn't Lincoln a lawyer?
They have no problem with that. I just don't see how they can expect to put Edwards down with his profession. He worked his way up from very modest beginnings to become what he is, unlike Bush, who was born rich and has accomplished nothing on his own (nothing to be proud of anyway).

13. Of course, Bush* hates lawyers! He couldn't get into law school!

Kerry and Edwards are successful in a field that wouldn't give the freak monkey the time of day.

Edited to include: There are currently 176 Reps and 59 Senators with law degrees (Law is the no. 1 profession among Congress members!)

14. Republicans hate the American judicial system
it is a simple explanation. They don't trust juries, meaning they don't trust the people.
