For those concerned about Clark's political affiliation
From Blitzer yesterday, commenting on Delay's criticism of Clark as 'blow-dried' or some such nonsense:

---

CLARK: Well, first of all, I'd be happy to compare my hair with Tom DeLay's. We'll see who's got the blow-dried hair.

But beyond that, Wolf, he's got it exactly backward. It's upside down. I am saying what I believe. And I'm being drawn into the political process because of what I believe and what I've said about it.

So it's precisely the opposite of a man like Tom DeLay, who is only motivated by politics and says whatever he needs to say to get the political purpose. And so, you know, it couldn't be more diametrically opposed, and I couldn't be more opposed than I am to Tom DeLay.

You know, Wolf, when our airmen were flying over Kosovo, Tom DeLay led the House Republicans to vote not to support their activities, when American troops were in combat. To me, that's a real indicator of a man who is motivated not by patriotism or support for the troops, but for partisan political purposes.

1. it is clear that Clark is a Democrat
he is doing much what Ike did in 1952 and is trying to appear non-partisan in the months leading up to his announcement and then proclaiming himself a candidate for the Dem nomination.

5. too true
even if he doesn't run his voice needs to stay out there. His presence adds another degree of merit to the fight against Bush and his bullshit policies.

6. Tom Delay's Office Called My Dad's Secretary Last Week....
Edited on Mon Aug-18-03 12:56 PM by Magic Rat
Wanting to speak with a doctor (both my father and I work in the same hospital) to help with a health care committe that he's on.

The doctor told him to fuck off, because even he knew Delay was a crackpot.

:)

Good to hear that about Clark, he's vaulted into my No. 3 position, behind Kerry and Dean.

7. I'm hoping he is a Dem and that he runs
I want Dean, personally, but I'd have no problem voting for Clark if he gets the nomination.

9. Whether he runs or not, we need people like Clark on our side.
People with unimpeachable backgrounds who are not afraid to speak their minds.

10. It appears to me that
Clark is more trying to distance himself from being a politician rather than a repug. Claiming his independence from partisan politics so that he is free to make decisions based upon what he feels is best for the country.

I dunno, that's how I read it, not necessarily a bad thing.

(Sheesh, I am always so careful with capitalization and punctuation when posting on one of Will's threads.)

12. Good stuff
If he continues to say things like this and things I have read attributed to him in the past and he RUNS as a DEMOCRAT then I wouldn't have ANY problem supporting him.

15. No surprise to me at all...
Edited on Mon Aug-18-03 01:19 PM by GainesT1958
I knew all along he was on our side--everything he'd said had led up to such a conclusion, in my book. It dismayed me that so many doubted him and his leanings in the first place. Thanks a lot, WILL, for posting this and both 1) putting to rest any lack of certainty some of our fellow DUers may have had about his party preference, and, 2) giving a positive answer to my prayers about Gen. Clark running if Al Gore did not. That posibility now looks more and more to be a certainty every day.

that he is a proud Democrat.

Too much wishful thinking? on this board.

16. More signs
Clark has committed to attending a Democratic Party event in Tennessee, mid-September (the Truman Dinner, I think it's called).
