MIXING PROPHECY AND POLITICS
Edited on Wed Jul-07-04 01:58 PM by Skinner
This is pretty interesting. From the Christian Science Monitor by Jane Lampman http://www.csmonitor.com/2004/0707/p15s01-lire.html

Christian Zionists are growing in influence - even as they fight for policies their critics say work against peace in the Mideast. For these believers, it's all about fulfilling biblical prophecy.

Jerusalem - Ray Sanders and his wife, Sharon, grew up on farms in the American Midwest, but Israel has long been their home. Their journey began in the 1970's when they read Hal Lindsey's apocalyptic bestseller, "The Late Great Planet Earth," which laid out a scenario for the end of the world according to a literal interpretation of Bible prophecies.

"That awakened our understanding to Israel and its prophetic role in the Last Days," Mr. Sanders explains in his spacious Jerusalem office. "That was a real paradigm shift in our lives."

That shift spurred the couple to leave their jobs, attend Bible college in Texas, and move to Jerusalem, where in 1985 they helped found a biblical Zionist organization called Christian Friends of Israel (CFI).

3. Not broken - it was me.
Fixed now! Sorry.

I think this stuff is really interesting because I work with a lot of these people..

To me, this kind of belief would be more of a cult thing. They have taken one line from Paul's Letter to the Something or Yuther and put it with Revelation. And now we have a religion that guarantees that you will go to heaven if you just believe the right thing.

These people actually get to the point where they believe that God influences every part of their lives - and every thought that they have. It's kind of a mental illness, really.

Lots of people in mental hospitals believe pretty much the same thing.

7. Paul is a bit late
Paul thought the end would be in his time. How many generations have passed since he poured out his vitriol? Too many to have it stick. And Jesus said no one but God knew when the end would come (I'm just stating what the Christan's bible says-don't believe any of it myself) so it's kind of strange to hear that the bible bangers believe they have this much influence over the world.

You can't reason with these people. My sister is one of them. Every other sentence has jesus in it. It is a mental illness - her crutch and a way to keep her from making her own decisions and choices. GOD will do everything for her, even tell her how to wipe her butt. I stopped trying to reason with her years ago. After all, if the end is coming, you can treat other people like crap ( you're forgiven, after all) and you don't have to work for social change, to make the world a better, safer place for children. None of it matters. In my opinion, these wack jobs are the true anarchists, as disabled as their brains may be.
