1. Are you trying to discourage us?
Sorry, it's just that that's all books like this have ever done for me.

3. I read Dean, Clark and Kerry's books this winter...
Talk about droll nothingness. I guess they supposedly help the campaign somehow, but I've yet to figure out exactly how they do that.

4. This book is nothing like those books. Amazon reviewer's words:
Reviewer: Dan Whipkey from Omaha, NE
If you are looking for a candidate's standard election year political manifesto you won't find it here. What you will find is a can't put down page-turner. Sen. Edwards makes no political pronouncements or promises in this book. He has simply written deeply moving accounts of four notable cases he litigated before he became a national political figure. This book rivals anything John Grisham has to offer and what makes these stories so compelling is that they are about real events and real people. Interwoven throughout the book, Edwards gives us glimpses of his own personal story; his blue-collar upbringing, his rise from a young unpolished attorney to a highly successful trial lawyer, and sadly, the tragic death of his own teenage son. The reader will also discover much about the ins-and-outs of our legal system. If you think of personal injury lawsuits as frivolous pursuits by ambulance chasing lawyers this book may just change your mind. Each of the four cases is about deceit and truth, tragedy and triumph, and each is heartbreaking as well as heartwarming. It is encouraging to find that in the end, at least in these cases, righteousness and justice prevails.

5. Thanks for the selective review.
The reviews I read are not so kind. By the way, you do know that Clark's book is quite different from the usual manifesto, too, don't you?

7. Only the people who also bought O'Reilly's book didn't like it. This...
...was the first review I read. It's the first one listed. I didn't need to be selective. I just cut and pasted the first thing I saw.

If you read the other three, why won't you read this one too?

You can get it used.

15. Because I've finally learned my lesson.
Here are the books I've read in the last couple months worth reading:

Slightly Out of Focus by Robert Capa
The Great Unraveling by Paul Krugman
The Shipyard by Juan Carlos Onetti
Being America by Jedediah Purdy
Nightwood by Djuna Barnes
The Street of Crocodile by Bruno Schulz
The Art of Travel by Alain de Botton
House of Bush, House of Saud by Craig Unger
Our Man In Havana by Graham Greene
Against All Enemies by Richard Clarke
Beyond the shadow of the Senators -- the untold story of the Homestead Grays and the integration of baseball by Brad Snyder

Will you read all of these just because I like them?

I criticized the Oregon Kerry campaign. Not "Kerry-Edwards."

Big difference. And the books I read have nothing to do with it.

And that one says, "Not your typical political autobiography" and is very positive.

How was I being selective?

10. Dude. Look at the books at Amazon.
The only people who review them either give them great reviews or crap reviews (and those are almost solely reserved for partisan nonsense on political tomes).

Those ratings are meaningless. They're self-selected.

But it's OK if AP acts the same way, only worse.

Thanks for the baloney.

I love baloney.

It's funny, too.

By the way, while your second and third examples might be debatable, the first and fourth examples are shown to be true by this very board. So you really should be more selective when coming after me about my accusations. At least some of them are true, after all.

It's clearly NOT selective quoting, because it's the first review, and it appears to be representative of the other reviews. And I think he's been responding to you more than your posts deserve.

Why don't you spend your time more constructively than bashing Edwards' book (which you haven't even read)?

6. Yes, I read it sometime last year.. was fantastic!
Really gives you insight into the soul of the man they call John Edwards! I didn't like Edwards and wanted to read this to see if I could get a better grasp or feel for this man. It convinced me that the man has a lot of integrity and heart and is the best man for the office of VP!

Never read a book with expectations....always read it with open eyes?

Also, very easy read, btw!

After plowing through Clinton's new book, I've finally decided that the lesson I should have learned long ago stands true: life is too short for politicians as authors -- the few authors turned politicians excepted.

14. Again, get your story straight. You can't read a book by a pol for fear
of being disappointed, yet you've admitted to reading 3 of the candidate books and you've finished Clinton's book which has only been out for about a week now.

Sounds more like you couldn't wait to not read another biography by a pol...after you finish the one you're working on.

I bet you'll break down and read something else to selectively criticize when you need to claim you've read it to do so, and for other books by Democrats you don't like you'll just try to dicourage people from reading them, like you've don here.

But I bet it wasn't really the last straw.

You see, I can agree with someone and still find their output lacking. I know you can't imagine this, but try. Try real hard.

30. The real scoop.
I made a bit of a joke, because, let's face it, books by politicians, by and far, aren't very good. They can be interesting in parts, and even enlightening here and there. But we all know that most of them sit on the shelves after most folks fight through the first few pages.

Anyway, instead of responding in kind, AP offered up his usual, insufferable nonsense. I'm in a cranky mood, so I chose to play along.

There it is. The reality of this particular thread.

Anyone who raised a son who was that good has got to be a decent person.
