Certainly they won't promote someone with an overly skeptic attitude regarding the CIA -- but such an attitude would certainly have been helpful to prevent the coming whitewash.

They don't CARE whether or not it stinks, whether it looks bad, whether it opens them up to crit. They ONLY care about achieving their goals, and if that means a patently obvious ploy such as appointing Lehman, then so be it...they'll still get what they want, and won't think twice about what any of us think.
