6. I dunno.

The Oregon Kerry website noted that some Kerry items could be found at Oregon Dem HQ, but nothing about the Kerry HQ having anything.

I'm a bit discouraged with the Oregon Kerry campaign, as it is. My wife has contacted them about volunteering twice, with no return call. If they had any idea about the level of talent they're pissing off, they'd pound their heads on the wall.

8. Just go in in person. They can't return your call because they don't have
the volunteers to field the calls and help them organize. Your wife could be that person.

Don't wait to be invited. Go down there and help.

If you see a problem, solve it. Don't complain about it on the internet.

9. Sorry, but we volunteer a lot of places.
It's been our experience that our time is used to more value by organizations that have their act together. If you can't even call back, you don't have your act together. There are other places and ways that we can make a difference in this election. And we will go there.

10. So, what's your wife calling them for? Moral support?
I'm just saying, if they need help, and you're calling to help, and they're not organized enough to return the call, spend that time you were going to volunteer by going straight down to the office and offering to answer and return calls and make lists of volunteers for them.

It makes more sense than posting to the internet about how disappointed you are in their organization.

You want to lecture. Fine. Lecture. But go find a pulpit or a street corner and do it right.

I know from where I speak. God forbid that I criticize an organization on a board at DU rather than give my life to "save" that organization. That never happens. Umm. Maybe because I've only got one life, and I'm going to make damn sure that I use my time wisely. It's very clear that using my time with the Oregon Kerry campaign isn't the wise way to spend my time if my aim is to get the guy elected.

Sorry that this is so hard for you to grasp.

12. Hey, I've been the person in the campaign office struggling under pressure
and it's just annoying to read you complain about the people doing that work. You think they're in that office sitting around enjoying a smoke and a beer?

They'd love to have your wife down there to help. Because they can't call her back is the biggest evidence they need her. But, hey, I guess it's easier to just complain.

I suppose if you want to get Kerry elected, your time is better spent complaining on the internet that his campaign is disorganized?

That makes sense.

13. If you say so...
but you seem to spend a great deal of time time preaching on the Internet.

My wife and I know a thing or two about organization. We've developed and run a number of successful nonprofits and foundations. Furrther, we help nonprofit boards do the same. And we also volunteer time where we don't want to worry about such things. We've learned that the orgs. who don't call back, typically don't do a lot of things they should do. It's a lesson we learned the hard way, and we're not going to forget it once it's been learned. Life is too short. My time is too valuable.

That was my point in pointing out the problems with the Oregon campaign. God forbid that someone might focus on calling back proposed volunteers, especially if the organization is so short on volunteers. Seems basic. I guess it's not.

7. If they have it, they'll give it away for free, but if they don't have...
...enough, they'll want to make sure you put it somewhere where it will be seen by the right people (undecideds). Don't be selfish and take stuff you won't use. It's also nice to make a cash contribution under the reporting limit ($200??) at the local HQs.
