F9/11 ticket holders- seniors, boomers, under 20 ?
Michael Moore movie is a family film. It should be viewed together.

My daughter noted she was the youngest (20) in the theater 3/4 full. They will be the ones who totally pay for this. She asked if I would survey DU to see if this was timing.......
What did you see in your theater?

1. wide selection...
of 20's to 70's and fairly multi-cultural in Chicago the Sunday (gay pride parade day) after the opening Friday at the Landmark theater.

2. In my showing...
I went to see it with my husband and my father in law. On Thursday night the theater was half full. Large groups of people were coming in, it was never just couples.

Mostly 30-60'ish crowd. Several African American folks there which I found interesting because I live in a town that is very WASP'ish. The only problem I had was one elderly woman sitting right behind me felt compelled to loudly "tsk tsk"/cluck (that sort of "You should be ashamed" noise) throughout several parts of the movie. It was very distracting and of course, she had a whole LOT to tsk tsk about...

3. I was there at 1 p.m. on opening Sunday
...and it was a pretty broad age mix. I'm 28, and quite a few of the people were younger than me (I'm not sure if there were many under-18s, though). Lots of seniors, too.

4. I went to a matinee
Quite a few elderly folk.

Nobody walked out, and everyone there seemed to enjoy the film.

5. very mixed audience
when we went.

Our group consisted of

my husband and I
our 30 yr old son and wife
our 20 yr old son and girlfriend
our 17 yr old son and girlfriend
our 19 yr old nephew

Might depend on the showtime, too.

6. Majority seemed to be over 50 years old at my local theatre
It was on Sunday afternoon, and the theatre was about half full. I took my 2 teenaged sons, and they were the youngest ones that I saw there. I felt pretty emotional in the end (Michael Moore asking if the low-income kids who go into the military will believe the government the next time they are expected to go to a war, etc.) and it felt great that there was applause and whistling when the credits came up starting with Michael Moore's name. As we were leaving there seemed to be a younger crowd waiting to go in (I guess we were with the older matinee audience.)

7. Saturday morning matinee
The Saturday morning matinee in a very conservative area of Maryland was mostly seniors, with a scattering of middle aged folk like me, and one young African-American couple with their child (very young, about four).

8. We Went on July 4th
Hi,

We went on July 4th in a small Illinois town. It was my husband, me and our 2 teens ages 15 & 16.

Our theater was 3/4 of the way full during the matinee, which I thought was outstanding given the day and the fact that the town we saw it in is somewhat a vacation town, most people should have been out on their boats.....it was a perfect day for boating. This is also a Republican stronghold.

I was stunned at how many senior citizens were there...at least 40% of the audience. There were also kids as young as 10...and I'm guessing, they could have just been small for their age.

Only 2 couples left during the movie, big applause at the end.

On a side note...just got off the phone with a friend her daughter and my son (16 year olds) went to school together; saw the movie last night with her Dad, freaked out and they had to leave. I talked to the girl today and she said it was at the part with the amputees in the hospital.

Hope this helps with your demographics.

Cheers,
Kim

10. Sunday afternoon show ...
mixed crowd ... though there was a very nice senior couple who was asking everyone to sign a petition against the Patiot Act. My mother and I had a nice conversation with them. They were well-educated, well-informed on the issues and very active in the fight for our Democracy. You gotta love 'em! B-)

Of course, their was another senior, a woman, who was asked to sign it as she left the theater. She said, in a very snotty tone of voice, "Oh, I guess that's against Bush, right?" About six of us jumped all over her and said, "No! It's not against Bush. It's against the Patriot Act, which is against us and our freedom! We're losing our privacy and our civil rights! Are you happy about that?"

She signed the petition.

11. I've been seeing a lot of young men,
like in their late teens-early 20s. Hell hath no fury like Howard Stern scorned. He's been sending his audience to see it in droves. Bless the man. I've never cared for him - vulgar and juvenile humor, in my view - but bless him for enlightening his target demographic, who also happen to be prime fodder for the Imperial War Machine. My stepsons (18 and 21) went to see the movie on Saturday night, and now they're dragging all their friends forcibly to see it. They may even start joining us at the local legislative district meetings and Kerry meetups, and they've both promised to start working on voter registration among younger folks! Right ON, Michael Moore, and right on, Howard Stern!

12. In Fairmont, West Virginia (80 miles south of Pittsburg)
We went Monday, mid afternoon and that time and day may have had a bit to do with the turnout. I'd say that about 75% of the people there were over 60 (my wife and I are both 57 ourselves, so I'd say a little older than we were), maybe 15~20% were young, late teens to early 20's (we have a son who is 28 so I can generally judge young people's ages) with the rest in the peak earning years (I don't know of any other way to describe them).

I was a bit suprised, but not unpleasantly. I mentioned it to my wife actually, but I also noted that these are the people who vote, As I said, I was pleased.

14. This is all GREAT. Especially about how many seniors are attending.
Senior citizens vote like crazy. That's why AARP and other senior lobby groups are so powerful. They're never ignored for long because man-oh-man do they vote!

And by the way - WELCOME TO DU!!!

15. ALL AGES and MANY RACES
Our movie was delayed quite extensively due to technical difficulties (yeah right)...it gave us the opportunity to really check out the crowd. i'd say that 35-45% were under 30...

16. First time I saw it
was the matinee on the day it opened. The audience was mostly seniors like me. The second time I saw it, matinee four days later, the audience age ranged from teens to seniors.
