Who endures freedom? It is to be enjoyed not endured. Enduring Freedom.....Is that what we are projecting, an endurance to freedom instead of a dictatorship? What an idiot ! I thought about this when they named it ! Whoever dimwit had to name the war was really saying something in that name !

3. The "freedom" that these folks seem to be proud of
must be a branded, trademarked product. Kind of similar to freedom in some respects, but different form what any of us expected.

Of course, I thought Operation "Iraqui Freedom" was a lousy name. Why was that supposed to get my juices going? It inspired me about as much as, say "Canadian Wine." I know they have it. It has not made a major contirubution to the culture.

4. should have been called...
..."Operation Infanticide"- simply for the sheer number of children the troops have killed--- on George W Butcher's orders, of course.

5. Endure can mean "continue to exist".
http://www.onelook.com/?w=endure&ls=a

In this case, it was supposed to mean that the freedom endures a hardship, but survives.

The whole concept of giving operations inspiring names is a little silly. "Operation Just Cause" is one example. Back in World War II, they gave operations meaningless names like "Torch", "Varsity" and "Overlord" and that was sort of cool. Commanders on the ground in Iraq have started using intentionally cool names like "Operation Planet X" and even "Operation Red Dawn", which was named after a 1980s action movie.

7. Captain Kirk....
...how do you feel about your old friend Scotty's- played by James Doohan- recent alzheimer's diagnosis? I believe the Enterprize will be a much lonelier place as a result.

6. Frank Luntz probably thought it up.
Luntz was on Bill Moyer's "NOW" show on PBS last week.

This Republican polster said that he has been making up a lot of Orwellian double-speak comming from the GOP lately.

On the "Now" show, Luntz talked about how he used the book "1984" as sort of a 'guide book' on how to use double-speak to fool the people.

8. Double entendre...
Endure can mean to suffer or to bear onerously, but it can also mean to last. Lasting freedom could be substituted and that, I think, was the author's intention. Ironically, however, the "bearing onerously" seems to be the way it is working out. Good catch!
