"The Pet Goat" available on Amazon!!
Well, actually, it's the elementary school reader that "The Pet Goat" is in. (With thanks to two Bartcoppers monkeyfister and Praxxus for pointing it out to me.)

Here's His Majesty in the classroom dealing so masterfully with the attack on America, calmly, with his very presence, endangering the lives of all the children around him.

And here's:

Reading Mastery II, Storybook 1,
By Siegfried Engelmann and Elaine Bruner
ISBN 0574101284
Publisher SRA/MacMillan/Mcgraw Hill

"The Pet Goat" is on page 153 of Storybook 1.

Finally, here's the Amazon link:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0026863553/ref=pd_bxgy_text_1/002-0824900-4327210?v=glance&s=books&st=*

Far be it from me to encourage my fellow DUers to go over there and write reviews of this book, showing the pResident how we appreciate his choice in literature during one of the worst disasters in American history. No, I would never do that.

1. I Recall Reading a Synopsis of the Book
The goat is apparently eating everything - to the point that the family is in danger of starving. Sounds like multinational corporations to me. The father is ready to give the goat its walking papers, but the goat saves the family from an intruder. Enter the Department of Homeland Security. Presumably the goat is still eating the family out of house and home, but the family is safer under the goat's watchful eye.

Cockeyed analogy? I'd like to find out more about the author of the book. Secret societies love to use symbolism and numerology - and throw it in our faces. Maybe I'm making too much of this, but it seems like an avenue of research that hasn't been traveled yet. :tinfoilhat:

2. Remember "The Hungry Caterpillar?"
Bush seems to prefer children's stories that feature voracious critters gobbling up everything in sight.

I was appalled when I listened to the story those kiddies were reading. I know the author is trying to keep it simple, but that's the sort of incredibly dumbed down stuff that turns most kids off to reading.

Authors of kiddie books need to discover the cliffhanger, something that makes kids want to rush on to the next chapter. They could use taking a clue from J. K. Rowlings, who has kids reading 600 page monsters with no pictures and loving it.

And greed is a bad thing in them!

3. Reviews so far...
Nothing could tear me away from "The Pet Goat", July 7, 2004
Reviewer: A reader from Washington DC
Not even a national emergency! This is probably the greatest book EVER written. It has lots of colorful pictures, and it's just so fun to "read" while I sit there for at least seven minutes wondering why I took a job that I have absolutely no skills for, and that when it comes right down to it, I didn't even want! It's not as good as "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" (the words are bigger), but it comes close!

W & Goats, July 7, 2004
Reviewer: A reader from Duluth, MN
I like reading about goats. Especially "the pet goat."

Presidential material, through and through!, July 6, 2004
Reviewer: Lolla Fallujah (see more about me) from Hannah Storm's house
After reading the enclosed story "The Pet Goat," I was stunned by its lyrical beauty and easy cadence. The tempo, the choice of words, and the layout on each page captured my imagination so much that it took me about seven minutes to recover my bearings.

6. Anyone else notice that he grabbed the book AFTER he'd been told?
It must be a very soothing and reassuring tome, because to hear him talk, surely a religious fellow like * would have reached for the Bible first!

10. Yep. The actual title is "The Pet Goat".
The media had it wrong, as usual.
