CSpan read news about the BBV hearing in the House yesterday.
ANYBODY besides Kanary, two others, and me followed this last night (on repeat)? It was pitiful, the lack of understanding from the governmental units responsible to guard the integrity of our vote.

I WANT TO GO BACK TO PAPER. If Canada can use paper, why can't we?

I don't want these machines around until things are done right.

A dem had a good argument: If the Feds spent so much on Iraq TO DEFEND democracy why DOESN'T THE FED GOVT. want to spend ANY money to shoulder part of the States' costs for NATIONAL elections?

I got really disgusted when the women in charge of 3 state election equipment testified... they were more worried about the investment already done (they did not want to change anything because there is NO time and there is NO money...) than the integrity of the elections. One of them was GEORGIA, then Maryland, and California (this one used paper backup for the machines, but it is a paper "ribbon" type ballot that is 4 feet long! WTF?????

2. Yeah... the repugs were saying there are so many CONSPIRACY
(implying looney) theories about the "nice, nice, nice voting machines".
And they DID NOT INVITE BEV. She could have put them in their places... oh... I understand why they did not invite her.

Two of the younger computer scientists were pretty good. It made clear we really have no idea of how to solve the problems before November the second.

3. I really hope that the US does go back to paper ballots...
I have never understood why that ever changed in the first place. If there were problems with the security of the ballots, etc, why not change the security mechanisms instead of throwing the baby out with the bath water?
