Military vote at risk; post F9/11 impact? |
|
Typically, the military votes republican/consevative at a higher rate than the general population. If there is a war on, that is magnified. But, maybe not this time.
We have almost 400,000 troop posted outside the US borders or on ships at sea. But despite major voting debacles in 2000 and 2002, the US military and US govt have only now (in the last two months) tried to "fix" the way in which ballots are handed out, how Diabold computer voting machines will be analyzed and configured and how the votes will be counted on Nov. 2. Estimates and guestimates range from 20-45% of presidential ballots had a problem from overseas in 2000. Want to venture a guess about 2004?
No one knows if the Diabold machines will work. No dry runs, no tests, but still the president of Diabold "KNOWS" and "GUARANTEES" that Bush will be re-elected.
Despite GAO reports that these machines are easily tampered with, Diabold deliberately does not allow for paper tracks (needed for auditing and confirmation).
Add to this mess, many troop are angry at how they are being treated. Being able to see F9/11 will only reinforce this change in beliefs and voting patterns. Troops stationed in the US are flocking to the movie. Reports are scattered, but the reactions are apparently grim. Angry and grim.
I don't know about you folks, but I smell a rat.
