When is the 911 commission's final cover-up due?

"A book recently published in France makes two remarkable claims: The Bush administration was negotiating an oil pipeline with the Taliban until last summer; and the late John O'Neill, the nemesis of Osama bin Laden, had resigned from the FBI's war against terrorism protesting that the administration's oil policy was obstructing his investigation.... the French book could not easily be dismissed as partisan flacking because of the stature of its authors http://www.intelligenceonline.com/contacts_iof.asp and the depth of its research. There is no way that another big terrorist attack could do anything, but sink Smirky. However, they would try to install lock-down Martial Law and really show their fascist nature.

I really don't want to fight this in the streets...but it could happen.

Sheeple will not be told they cannot go to Wal-Mart at 2:00 AM if they damn want to!!

This would bring reality home for them. It's one thing to be ignorant about the situation on the streets of Baghdad, it's completely another thing to not be able to go out for an ice cream cone after supper on a hot summer night...

You're dreaming that Americans would stand for that...

78. martial law, American style
Edited on Thu Jul-08-04 09:58 AM by dymaxia
If there were ever martial law in the US, they would try to disguise it as something else and make it sound 'fun' and 'patriotic'. Every week on tv would be a 'sweeps week'.

It would have to be martial law with a 'smiley' face. Then and only then will it work. Perhaps Wal-Mart and 7-11 will deliver, too, just like Domino's and the Ice Cream Man.

54. How the hell would you do that?
Good luck!

I think I have read that there are provisions in the patriot act that won't let you leave.

TNR is reporting that Pakistan is going to deliver bin shithead at the end of July.

This IMO is the run up to delivery of UBL for maximum public reaction.

Phase 1:
The Gov warns the public, starting now--geeks the public all up
(or so they think... judging by the people I talk to lately, no one listens, or cares at this point what chicken little is doing in DC)

Phase 2:
Bush and his wonderful admin will foil a horrendous "terra" attack (we will of course have come "this close" to untold horrors that would have surpassed the 911 attacks)

Then they trot bin laden out.

The busheviks won't declare martial law IMO this is just another PR move-they have to remind us to be scared so that bin ladens capture has maximum impact.

For what it's worth that is my take.

A wag the dog, save-amerika from bad brown people at the eleventh hour kind of 24/7 reality news show that will take over the arirwaves with continuous late breaking details until every last one of us gets sucked into the propaganda uptake. The plan being that's all America will see, and the Kerry/Edwards campaign will be diminished and derailed.

It's gonna be scripted like a damn Rocky movie!

Yeehah! Am I cynical or what???

And oh yeah, there'll be LOTS of drivel about how God had his hand in guiding our wanker president in saving Amerika...

...of cynicism. Honestly, the past several years have just bottomed me out in the well of cynicism. I'm just sick of people being so dambed IGNORANT. And what's worse, they seem to be WILLFULLY ignorant.

pResident Pinhead's approval rating is STILL at 45%, in spite of all the horseshit he's pulled. And a narrowly-averted "terrorist attack" would put his ratings way up into the triple digits (yeah, I know that it's not statistically possible but I'm just trying to make a point here, so give me a break).

86. could just as well go the other way, rationally speaking:
Edited on Thu Jul-08-04 10:50 AM by rman
if Bush *again* fails to protect the people, then why would the people want him as president again?

Note that in the case of the attack on Spain the goal of the 'terrorists' apparently was opposite of what their goal supposedly would be in the case of another attack on the US:
In the case of Spain the terrorists were pleased with Spain retreating from Iraq as a result of the attack, while in case of the US they supposedly want to encourage the US to continue the war in Iraq and the war on terror.

Does that make any sense?

And what is Bush to do if another terrorist attack improves his chances of winning the election? If that's the case then what exactly would be his motivation to protect the people? It seems he has more reason to LIHOP then he has reason to prevent an attack.

Just going on this arguably odd rationale of US officials wrt to this (supposedly) upcoming attack, it is as though AQ and Bush have the same interests.

In short:
does Bush want AQ to attack in order to win the elections?

49. They want to bring out Osama during dem convention
Pakistanis told to produce "high value targets", ie Osama, prior to election. Ideally,
timed to knock Dems off the headlines.

http://www.tnr.com/doc.mhtml?i=20040719&s=aaj071904

A third source, an official who works under ISI's director, Lieutenant General Ehsan ul-Haq, informed tnr that the Pakistanis "have been told at every level that apprehension or killing of HVTs before election is absolute must." What's more, this source claims that Bush administration officials have told their Pakistani counterparts they have a date in mind for announcing this achievement: "The last ten days of July deadline has been given repeatedly by visitors to Islamabad and during meetings in Washington."
(just in time for the Democratic Convention)
Says McCormack: "I'm aware of no such comment." But according to this ISI official, a White House aide told ul-Haq last spring that "it would be best if the arrest or killing of HVT were announced on twenty-six, twenty-seven, or twenty-eight July"--the first three days of the Democratic National Convention in Boston.

52. If it's not a big deal...
Why are they on TV talking about it? If I'm not supposed to know about this, the alert system is for law enforcement, why are they telling me about it?

Jerks.

59. Ask them
The media should be called on the carpet every single time they do something this obviously stupid.

Let them know we're not as dumb as they wish.

48. Lies
Democrats may have voiced suspicions, but that's a far cry from saying it with certainty.

Stupid talking head whores should be fired.

51. I sent this to CNN this morning on their feedback form
http://www.cnn.com/feedback/cnntv/

"Thank you for your reporter's skepticism this morning regarding the timing and the motives of the Dept. Homeland Security's new terror alert. Such an approach is the foundation of good journalism, and is a breath of fresh air compared to the mainstream media's usual stenographic approach to White House announcments.

Keep up the good work."

56. Oh, shut up! Just SHUT THE FUCK UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What is it now? Floating Beer Coolers Of Death? Frogmen of Fear at Santa Monica Pier? Anthrax Drones over Disney World (a.k.a. Pterodactyls of Pterror)? Almanac-totin' Amish? Menacing Mennonites?

Should we be on the lookout for people who are carrying backpacks or briefcases? Should we be on looking for people in crowds (in July) who are *sweating*? Or should we just be on the lookout for people with lots of wires protruding from beneath their clothing?

Let me guess, does anyone think there will be any announcements of this sort to trouble the placid waters of the Republican Convention late in August?

That's OK, I didn't think so either!!

58. D'ya know what really sucks?
Bush's wolf-crying has made us even more vulnerable. If we actually did need to act quickly, we could miss it because nobody would believe it at first.

Wow. Bush really does give aid and comfort to terrorists.

74. Timing of this warning useful, but warning purpose more sinister
The timing distracts from both the Edwards excitement and the story about the BFEE plans for a dem convention Osama SurpriseTM.

More importantly though for the BFEE, it is another step that sets us all up for the horrible attack that will require cancelling elections and instituting martial law. "It's believed, the official said, al Qaeda will attempt to strike before the November presidential election, the official added." (proofreader must have slept through that sentance)

81. Yes, I agree...
...and I'd add that the upcoming "attack" will be narrowly thwarted. I know you're sick of hearing me repeat this but it will make the Bushistas look heroic AND it will make the sheeple even more accepting of the Homeland Security measures. The slide into fascism will be complete.

be too cautious around high fiber, deadly gas producing foods.
