I think it's more because THK isn't as important to Kerry getting Elected as Laura is the biggest help for GWB in his bid isn't due to THK being a bad wife or not stepping forward well as a representative to her family. I think it is more than George's wife is significantly better for him due to how poor a fauxist he is.

Frankly, I think Teresa's the real mensch here, but the public and the press really buy the PR on the Bush marriage and Laura Bush's supposedly huge commitment to education and libraries. The media will coo over an event for authors but neglect to mention that the administration wanted to cut Reading Is Fundamental and other reading programs, and snoop about your reading material via the Patriot Act.

Maybe the press will wake up, but they've SOLD Laura Bush so. They've bought that keep-women-in-their-place crap so completely.

Kerry doesn't need his wife to make him appear more human and/or capable.
