Conservatives Hate Workers. America is made up mostly of workers.
Conservatives Hate Social Security, unions, unemployment compensation, job training, living wages - basically everything that makes the average person's life a little easier.

Conservatives Hate Equality. America started with "All men are created equal".
Conservatives Hate voting, free speech, equal rights, different opinions - they hate having to share the world with different people.

Conservatives Hate the Truth. American democracy can't function without truth.

Unfortunately it is the America they envision, which is everything you described. They hate the America handed down to us by the founding fathers. Every time they go on a diatribe about the ACLU I point out that it is not the ACLU that is making you stop acting in your fascist manner it is the constitution. If the ACLU was wrong then conservatives would be winning these cases. You don't hate the ACLU, you hate America.

I've been spending some time on a different website, and have gotten to know a number of them. Although there are a few who just can't help rubbing me the wrong way, many of them are, in fact, reasonable people who have a different worldview. And, I was surprised to find that many hold more than a few opinions with which i totally agree... especially the libertarian crowd.

It has been all downhill since Lincoln made it illegal to own people outright. If he had not we would not have the diversity we have now. Imagine the regrets Conservatives have about letting Asians, Ethnic Europeans, Mexican Americans and others in to their dirty work. We ended up using their system to get what they had. It pisses 'em off. Successful people of color fucks up people who believe that America should be home to the Whiteous and to the Whiteous only.
