Kerry, Edwards: Fla. Votes to Be Counted

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) - Democrats John Kerry and John Edwards, on their first trip together to the state that narrowly put President Bush in the White House after a fierce recount and court fight in 2000, promised Thursday that "every vote is going to be counted" this year.

The presidential candidate told thousands of screaming supporters gathered in an airport hanger in Broward County, ground zero in the recount, that he's discovered that Edwards' two young children, ages 6 and 4, were "good at math."

"Those kids really know how to count," Kerry said. "I've given them a special duty in this election. We're sending Jack and Emma Claire down there to help those Republicans in West Palm Beach count those votes."

As the crowd erupted, Kerry boomed: "I've got news for you. In 2004, not only does every vote in Florida count but every vote is going to be counted."

1. They are saying it to get people to the polls...
But with Jeb in the state, sadly I don't think it's true.

3. A scathing internal review of new machines in Miami-Dade & Broward
Count Crisis?
Elections official warns of glitches that may scramble vote auditing

Miami Daily Business Review

A scathing internal review of the iVotronic touch-screen voting machines used in Miami-Dade and Broward, Fla., counties, written by a Miami-Dade County elections official, has raised fresh doubts about how accurately the electronic machines count the vote.

The review, contained in a June 6, 2003, memo that came to light last month, concludes there is a "serious bug" in the voting machine software that results in votes potentially being lost and voting machines not being accounted for in the voting system's self-generated post-election audit.

The Miami-Dade County Commission's elections subcommittee has scheduled meetings today and Friday to discuss the issues raised in the memo.

The memo could cast a new shadow over the credibility of electronic voting as the November presidential election approaches. Electronic voting machines are coming under increasing criticism for being glitch-prone, not providing an adequate way to perform a recount in close races, and being vulnerable to computer hacking and fraud.

somehow without Kerry & Edwards signing onto S.1980, their actions speak louder than words.

6. Sounds to me like they have in plan in place
should the same bs happen in 2004 as in 2000. He just assured everyone that all votes will be counted. Don't know what the plan is, but sounds like they have one. (imho)

4. I checked the other day, and Orange County (Orlando) is still using paper
ballots...the type where you connect the arrow. Pretty straight forward, and machine readable. AND, auditable.
In Orlando, they offer you the opportunity to vote via mail, in advance...not the same as an absentee ballot.

7. Oh I'll vote for sure
I'm just not sure right now which method I'll use-absentee is where I'm leaning right now unless Wexlers' lawsuit calling for a paper trail (which would ensure a recount) wins....and we all know Jeb Crow is going to do everything within his power to stick a pole in those spokes
