Bush's cheap shot at Edwards
Edwards’ time in Senate same as Bush's in Austin

Today, President Bush took a shot at John Edwards, suggesting the U.S. senator was ill-prepared to be vice president of the United States.

The attack was a cheap shot: John Edwards has served the same amount of time in the Senate as George W. Bush served as governor of Texas when he was elected president. The Texas legislature only meets every other year and the governorship of the Lone Star State has long been considered one of the weakest positions of its kind in America. Add to it that Edwards has sat on the intelligence committee through the days before and after September 11th. You could argue that Edwards has more experience in key areas than George W. Bush did when he ran in 2000.

Other vice presidents, like Harry Truman, were dismissed as political hacks and lightweights, too, because of their relative lack of experience. But when the Senator from Missouri replaced one of the greatest presidents of the 20th century, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Truman exceeded all expectations and ended up being one of our country's strongest leaders.

...This campaign is a referendum on their performance and...(Bush has)...a great story to tell. It’s the strongest economic recovery in 20 years, there has been no follow up to the 9/11 attacks on America and the war in Iraq will reshape the Middle East every bit as much as Ronald Reagan’s war with the Soviets liberated Eastern Europe.

We're still more than a million jobs in the hole, Bush is an international pariah because he lied and bullied his way into the Iraqi invasion, and the conviction of Saddam Hussien is far from a slam dunk--especially if the trial doesn't begin within four months.

Scarborough still is alive and well in Never Never Land.

6. Don't be fooled
My personal unofficial tally for Michael Moore tidbits on his show is 15 straight episodes.

4. And "Senator" involves 1000000x more work than "Texas Governor"
Seriously people. Texas governor is the weakest position in Texas government. The Lt. Gov. has all the power.

5. Bush* never had to speak on the floor of the US Senate, either.
The TX Gov is mostly a ceremonial position... perfect for a C- student/cheerleader.

7. They KNOW it's a stupid talking point- so they are nixing it.
Better for one of their own to nip it in the bud before a DEM or Edwards himself points this out.

12. I can't stand Scarborough but I gotta hand it to him on this one. . .
I can't imagine that the Repugs are too pleased with his comments at the moment. He was very complimentary towards Edwards during the primary season too.

15. OK, that sounds like a reasonable explanation
Because there is no way that ultra rw partisan Scarborough would do or say anything negative against this administration. I think you are right. He's sending out signals to them that their attack on Edwards experience could end up kicking them in the ass, so cool it.

10. Scarborough is a strange dude. He was very gracious and...
complimentary about the Edwards announcement. Sometimes he can be very fair. And, when he's being fair he is a much better commentator than the tweetys and novacks we're used to seeing.

11. Of course, he then launches into the talking points, but still
:wtf:

Note to media: If Joe Scarborough tells you that a Repub talking point is lame, maybe you shouldn't parrot it.
