i think the thing with the pictures and drudge's suggestions has more to do with them not wanting to acknowledge that the pictures are positive and help kerry/edwards campaign. the candidates are seen as people who are caring and warm. you see those pictures and it's hard not to feel good about the team.

this is something you don't see in any pictures of bush and cheney together. there is no warmth or a personal connection between the two. they are just there. like someone told them to stand there so they can get a pic taken. the best thing about the kerry and edwards pics is that they are not posed but them just doing what they are doing and giving media open access to them which allows them to take pics anytime they want.

Most people (including most gay men, I would think) would look at the video where Kerry and Edwards are touching and think nothing of it. Friendly running mates slapping each other on the back or linking arms - standard political stuff, no big deal.

A repressed gay man like Drudge would of course interpret it in an erotic way and use it as a right-wing smear. For that reason, it's certainly fair to point out that Drudge is a self-loathing quasi-closet case who probably hasn't gotten any since the Reagan administration.

Anyway, this whole "outing" business seems to revolve around the fact that there's something shameful about being gay. A person's sex life should be private, but I don't think a person's sexual orientation is the same thing - it's just part of who you are, like being left- or right-handed. Brock didn't go digging through Drudge's personal belongings to find out he was gay. Drudge basically outed himself to Brock (if he was even "in" to begin with). I see nothing wrong with using out-of-the-closet celebs to show how anyone can be gay in order to make it less shameful and secretive. And, if you're asking people out on dates, you're not really in the closet, are you?
