Had a number of great encounters today at a gathering. People seemed to be especially energized...no doubt due to Michael's movie. I has some luck keeping arguments basically simple and directly challenge the core BS of "flaming liberals are morally incompetent".
Personally, I'm sick and tired of the labeling of "liberals" in the first place....and especially pissed off about how they've painted us as morally inferior.
We BELIEVE in abortion....get that...BELIEVE…..like how the f@@@ could someone BELIEVE in abortion....more like we don't think strict anti-abortion laws can be effectively LEGISLATED. Actually most dems don't even care about the abortion issue....this was trumped up to make the "libs have no morals" argument in the first place....
We BELIEVE that guns are a bad thing....and if we had our way we'd TAKE guns away from people....excuse me no dem ever legislated anything which stood in the way of owning guns legitimately....for sport or defense....we're talking about effective CONTROL. But once again....a very carefully trumped up argument with neocons sucking gun owners into believing that liberals are evil. Got them mucho votes. You a gun owner? Are you really afraid I'm going to take your gun away?
And last but not least we just have no solid moral grounds to stand on....being anti-religious....and having no core values. What are the democrats...a bunch of renegades? Perhaps we don't see so clearly how to divide the world into GOOD vs EVIL. Our stances are varied and appear to often change. So therefore...we don't really have any true solid positions on anything. WE CHANGE OUR MINDS!!!!! Excuse me...but are we in the dark ages here? Is a person's consideration of FACTS and evolving analysis of issues a bad thing? Is it possible for a person's conclusion to be different given different circumstances? Just think about this issue for a second and realize that the neocons have actually challenged OUR VERY ABILITY TO THINK!!!!!
The neocons have actually solidified a base of about 40% of the country using such convoluted moral arguments....which is astounding considering that they really represent the interests of about 1% of the country. Limbaugh must be given key credit in bringing this along too....the master hate weaver....pushing these types of buttons and conning the average worker into thinking that liberals are directly stealing their hard earned bucks.
And so they've been very effective in dividing the country and keeping people's eyes off what's really going on....a very carefully crafted squeeze play on the middle class for the benefit of 1% in this country.
WHAT'S THE REAL TRUTH? What made this country great was a vibrant middle class and a manufacturing base second to none. Now that base is eroding with middle class jobs and assets with it. The neocons are stealing the American dream.
The addiction to growth and profits is futile. Tax breaks to the rich over protracted periods have skewed the progressive tax system to the point that it threatens capitalism itself. You can look at growth figures all day long and try to convince yourself that things are going great. Problem is....growth figures don’t tell you squat about the hidden costs to the middle class, education, infrastructure, manufacturing base, or record deficits.
Greed, growth, profits and reckless blazing saddles corporate irresponsibility at a national level....it's a great thing isn't it.....

3. The Democrats have worked hard to earn the anti-gun label... |
|
...and they aim to keep it and certainly don't need the Republican's help in shooting themselves in the foot or fishing for every red herring out there.
The Democrats can also not lay claim to passing anything in the way of effective control of firearms where it really matters...with the criminals.
We BELIEVE that guns are a bad thing....and if we had our way we'd TAKE guns away from people....excuse me no dem ever legislated anything which stood in the way of owning guns legitimately....for sport or defense....we're talking about effective CONTROL. 4. Great post! I agree. IMO, most people who vote Rebublican are not really |
|
hard core Republicans.
IMO there are two kinds of hard-core Republicans: Gluttons and Hypocrites.
The Gluttons want just one thing: more and more "tax cuts" for the very wealthy. Though they make this the perennial core agenda item for the party, they generally don't harp on it until they've got a firm deal with lobbyists to buy enough votes to pass a specific bill through the Senate. The recent death and funeral of Ronald Reagan was a rare occasion to hear from them ad nauseam. Since Ronbo dropped the highest marginal income tax rate from 70 percent to 50 percent (while increasing payroll taxes on ordinary folks 25 percent), Reagan's like a SAINT to them!
While the gluttons quietly go about their reverse Robin Hood business, the Hypocrites create a continual hubbub over God, guns, gays, abortion, education, affirmative action, and any other issues permitting the ugliest appeals to the worst fears of the middle class. They make sure any sensible social policy changes that would take these issues away from them never see the light of day. For example, the House votes down funding to fix leaky roofs and faulty heating systems in urban public schools, while ceaselessly promoting pie-in-the sky school voucher plans.

5. Since the very wealthy is a very small percentage of |
|
voters the republicans must be mostly hypocrites.
