New time on Dean/Owens debate at ACLU....at 7 PM. C-Span tomorrow.
This is very interesting, BTW...Colleen Rowley on now...Bob Barr sounds sensible. Q&A format.

Also temporarily scheduled for C-Span tomorrow on American Perspectives.

Tonight at 7 PM Eastern, 4 PM Pacific, Governor Howard Dean will debate Governor Bill Owens on civil liberties and the war on terrorism at the ACLU's 2004 Membership Conference in San Francisco.

You can watch the live webcast of the event at on the ACLU site.

C-Span has tentatively scheduled a television re-broadcast tomorrow night on American Perspectives.

Governor Dean and Governor Owens have widely diverging views on the importance of our civil liberties and the so-called Patriot Act's impact on them.

Governor Dean has urged Congress to re-assess aspects of the Patriot Act and other anti-terror initiatives that give the government overly broad investigative and surveillance powers:

"After September 11, the Ashcroft Justice Department took advantage of the climate of fear and adopted a series of anti-terror tactics that go far beyond protecting our country and erode the rights of average Americans," said Gov. Dean. "We should be rolling these back, but instead Attorney General Ashcroft is trying to build on them with his 'Victory Act' proposal. He must not be allowed to compromise our freedoms any further."
Gov. Owens, who was the chairman of the Republican Governors Association in 2003 disagrees.

3. Yes, that is tomorrow at 2:00. C-Span is supposed to carry it as well.
The Nader site says live, but I don't see it on C-Span yet.

I don't know when the ACLU debate will air tomorrow, so it will not be live.

8. Anyone know if there will be transcripts?
I never recall Dean saying the stuff Owens is claiming he said.

I think he quoted just part of what he said. Also I do know that librarians are still trying to find how many records have been sought. Not sure about that.

I have been listening a lot today, and none of them are against the whole thing.

Do a search on him and the Patriot Act. He is NOT for repealing the whole thing.
Here is one statement:

It is Nagourney and Wilgoren type stuff that got it misconstrued.
