Subject: War with Iraq

Hi,

I don't know if anybody wants to join me in opposing the coming war with Iraq (which US forces are busily preparing for in Turkey, Northern Iraq, and other fancy locations), but if you do want to write your Senators, Representatives, and anybody else, here's a copy of what I sent to my reps in Washington. Feel free to adapt to your own liking, pass along to friends, or discard.

My version may be a little off the hinges (though I don't think so), so if you decide to write, go ahead and take out the oil company/campaign contribution/crony "follow the money" stuff if it's too much for you (recall, though, that Bush1's people bluntly declared that the first war with Iraq was about "oil").

You can write your reps through their sites at www.house.gov. Senators are at www.senate.gov.

As always, if you want off of the cranky liberals' mailing list, please let me know.

Dear President Bush,

Stop agitating for war on Iraq. Let the inspections work.

Thanks,

subject: a sample anti-war letter. please write a better one and pass it on if you care to.

your senate sites can be found at www.senate.gov. write if you see fit.
your house sites can be found at www.house.gov
the president is at president@whitehouse.gov

Dear Senator so-and-so:

I just thought I would take one last opportunity, before the cruise missiles start flying into Iraq, to object to the administration's rush to an unjustified war that will doubtless cause the deaths of tens of thousands of Iraqi conscripts and civilians, the needless deaths of American soldiers, the needless expenditure of untold billions in US Treasury
dollars, and the long-term destabilization of international relations.

Please do whatever you can to stop this madness.

Thanks,

Subject: a semi-reliable source and a quote

I apologize for another message on the brand new and exciting Iraq War, which many of you may be in favor of. Who wouldn't rather sit back and count their money? After all, as the Butthole Surfers advised us, "strangers die every day."

The DEBKA quote below is from a source (www.debka.com) that is sometimes wrong, sometimes astonishingly dead-on, sometimes suspected of being an arm of Israeli intelligence agencies, and so on. So the report may be the truth, but it may also be a piece of disinformation, kind of like things that often appear in the NYT, Post, Tribune, etc. It's the second report I have read that calls tomorrow, Monday March 17, the beginning of the "full-scale war" (we have been carrying out a small-scale war of saboutage, neutralization, and preparation) for quite some time now, as several reputable sources have established (unless, of course, the media is just a big fun-house of fucked-up wiggly mirrors, none reflecting faithfully. oh wait, that's a given, isn't it?). What an odd thing to do to the regime of a guy whom the CIA first put into power, and to whom the US has graciously supplied with weapons of mass destruction almost ever since.

Anyway, here's an alleged news item and a quote. I am ashamed that we as adult americans have been unable to stop this:

DEBKAfiles Military Sources: Full-scale US-British offensive against Iraq is scheduled to begin Monday, 24 hours after Azores summit

First stage: Combined bomber-missile strikes against strategic targets, including government centers, military and civilian communications systems, radio and television broadcasting centers, transport hubs.

Preparations wind up Sunday night to fly and parachute ground troops into Iraq from launching bases in and outside Middle East. US 82nd Airborne Division will be flown in from Afghanistan

At Azores summit, Blair promised Bush British 1st armored division would take part in assault on Basra, vitally augmenting allied southern advance

"Odd," said a fellow veteran of World War II, "that Bush and Cheney are so delighted to put us at war when, during Vietnam, they were both what we used to call `draft dodgers'."

1. So, was then the time for violent opposition?
I read that when all reasonable routes of recourse are exhausted, the populace resorts to violent opposition.

Did I miss the opportunity for violent opposition? This administration clearly rejects all reasoned opposition.

I take activism leading up to the next election as perhaps beyond the final opportunity for peaceful opposition to the Bush administration.

Your thoughts, please. Note to Govt. entities listening in: we are merely trying to defend the Constitution. We are merely trying to defend American Freedom. We know that you as Patriots are with us. Do Not Come Down On Us. Join us, Patriots in Government. We love the United States of America. Help us defend the USA.
