3. btw
It was defeated by 10 votes but the Republicans suspended the rules and kept the voting open for an hour or so to pressure, extort and bribe members to CHANGE their vote.

Thats how they got a tie. And thats the rest of the story.

15. Oh, again?
What were the names of the lily-livered cowards who caved?

I feel like saying I will bake cookies, from scratch cookies with bourbon vanilla, for anyone who brings me the heads of Hastert and Delay.

But that would be wrong, so I won't.

Their political hides will do.

Excellent cookies.

7. Actually
it was an amendment to remove part of the Patriot Act. I don't think it was actually renewed.

21. No, Cardlaw is right. Nothing was done to renew the Patroit Act today.
It was an amendment to weaken it. That's it.

House Leaves Patriot Act Unchanged

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Republican-led U.S. House of Representatives, under pressure from the White House and its own leadership, narrowly refused on Thursday to weaken the Patriot Act, a centerpiece of the administration's war on terror.

On a tie vote of 210-210, the chamber rejected a proposal that carried a White House veto threat and would have limited federal monitoring of library records and bookshop orders. A majority vote was needed to pass the measure.

more..........

http://www.reuters.com/newsArticle.jhtml?type=politicsNews&storyID=5624722

There's nothing in any article out there that says anything about it being renewed, so don't panic yet.

matter.

10. We all need to
make our extreme displeasure known to every single politician who voted in favor of it, particularly those chickenshit traitors who gave in to the bullying of the repukes. They scream and rant and rave about "freedom" and "democracy", etc., etc., but use fascist tactics worthy of the old Soviet Union in order to get the legislation they want "passed." And WE are supposed to be the uncivil, mean-spirited, hateful ones who are causing all of the rancor and rudeness on Capital Hill? BLECHHH!!!!!!!!

I wonder what the founding fathers would think if they saw this bill, the very type of bullshit they were fighting against and wanted to be free from!!!!!!!!!!! And what happened to all of those "anti-big-government, get-the-government-off-our-backs" conservatives who voted for it, giving the government greater powers over their and our lives than they've almost ever had before?

I'll have to find out tomorrow what my conservative republican friend who just got her MLS (Master of Library Science) and who is currently looking for a job, thinks about this. Should be pretty damned interesting. She's gonna get a cheerful earful if she defends it, that's for sure.

24. Un-Patriot Act
We are living in a Right Wing Dictatorship. Unless BushCo is voted out we will continue to live in one and it will get worse. With a Dem. Admin. we will only be living in a Plutocracy.
